I have something to consider and NP thoughts are welcome.
I have been asked to be the SRO for a large project . It concerns several organisations, TUPE of many hundreds of staff, redundancies, relocations, change management a budget of several £M. It is politically sensitive and is as attractive as a rat sandwich.
I was gracefully finding away to decline however on Friday at a Board meeting someone outed me as the 'candidate' (I have not applied) as our CEO and he had discussed it. The Board said "excellent".
Have discussed my reservations today with the Director I report to who has said go with your gut feeling. The project team have already contacted me to say they are thrilled. If I do this I will have either:
a) interesting different kind of influential role over the next 12 -24 months or
b) a dogs life (and I am not thinking Wheezy westie, a LIR dog or my own flattie)
I have had some chunky projects in the past, but I am not sure I have the energy for this at this time. I would still keep my existing team but add an new implementation team for this project. Locality wise I could travel around the organisations easily.
NP hear about my life all of the time so I value your opinions.0 -
I don't even have one loo of my own. I have to share it with whichever tom, !!!!!!, or harry is round here fixing the electrics or whatever. And they can feel free to start a new loo roll, and keep their shoes on. But they don't have to put the toilet lid down.
My loo foible is that I always have to have toilet rolls in the house - and I mean lots of them. I tend to buy them in big multi-packs and as soon as I run out of the last roll in the multipack I buy a new one. I stayed with a friend for a while who'd go out and buy a new pack when the last one went on the holder. I thought that was JustInTime taken to extremes. My foible is so bad that it gives me nightmares, so I feel your pain re toilet seats and footwear on kitchen floors. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The house stayed warmer once we had double glazed and fitted extra loft insulation. (We have no cavaties to fill.)The TV room is single brick with a vaulted ceiling and 3 external walls. It has double glazed windows and a roof lined with celotex. Probably only the windows meet building regs, the walls certainly wouldn't, it also has a concrete floor. Its ambient temperature is 2-3 degrees below the adjacent room. Given that it provides some protection for the adjacent room, that really isn't too bad.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I normally think 'do it' but....I empathise with something you haven't dwelt on...your health. Will the rat sandwich stress be significant impact on that?
Work life balance?
I don't say 'don't' because I think the challenge might be worth it, but.....think of yourself as well As the job.0 -

Sheet of paper: reasons for on onside and against on the other.
The fact that the director says go with your gut feel is a sign that he thinks it will be difficult. Do you feel more inclined to say yes because the team want you?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I once bought something like two hundred loo rolls as I was so fed up of running out.
I bought 48 last time i went out to shop and have decided to buy that many again if the offer is still on when I get back to the shops, or maybe twice that.
I too hate to run out of loo roll!0 -

I wondered about your health too Spirit - that sounds like a significant commitment in terms of both time and stress. Would it be worth it in terms of what you could get out of the challenge?0 -

That's my thought too. The good news is that it would look great on a CV. However it would look great to people who want you to do more of the same, which it sounds like you are reticent to accept.
Another question I would have would be whether I'm able to build my own team. For a responsibility that big, I'd want to be able to pick the people I'd want to work alongside me. I have worked on a project like this (though not as the ultimate person responsible) and as I'm sure you already realise the amount of time that you have to work together it is paramount to have people that you trust around you. You need to be as tight as a drum, have no leaks, and be able to have breakfast lunch and dinner together as well as discussing sensitive issues without wanting to kill each other. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I bought a pack when I moved here, and I think I have just enough to last until Christmas. I have been ordered not to buy loo roll as Father Christmas might be bringing some (not really, but there is something of a loo roll mountain chez parents as it is good to make the shopping up to a certain value for use of vouchers). This is quite finely balanced, and the last thing I need is other people using my loo roll like it is going out of fashion. I believe the offender is back again this week (they are here long enough to use the loo but not long enough to finish their work it seems) so I have hidden my supply. If I find out what day they are due, I may swap the loo roll for an empty one that day. Simple pleasures and all that0 -
Nikkster!,
Do not swap it for an empty one, just one light on paper.
If they go and have no paper I dread to think what their hands might do, and turning on the taps etc etc...........seriously...leave some on a roll.0
