Our heating looks like a really modern working system, it is well disguised.
We actually have 2 boilers - this is not a posh alert (where is PN?) the main boiler was either deemed not powerful enough to supply the extension or the old central heating system was deemed to old to bring up to modern standards.
So the thermostat looks good, but it only links to one boiler and the other one operates at will. The TRVs on some of the radiators are useless because part of the system is one pipe not two, so if the TRV stopped the heat going to one rad, it would stop it going to anything further along from that point. Any heating guy under about 50 just looks puzzled and runs away!
Apparently 2 boilers don't use more gas than 1, if they are both working correctly. Though paying for 2 maintenance contracts is a cost.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. As I have become older, I have mellowed very slightly, and I have come to the conclusion that e-mails like that are not worth it. If you do not wish to go ahead with that particular company, you could ask yourself why you should waste your time putting them right about where they went wrong. If you do wish to go-ahead with that particular company, but you want to deal with a different salesman, just say so but do not give any reasons unless absolutely forced to.
The death of the nurse who took the prank phone call is a timely reminder that lots of people are not coping terribly well with life, and I for one would not want to be responsible for pushing anyone over the edge.
When I was your age, in a stressful job, I might well have done something similar. So, do not feel bad about it, but believe me when I say it is better not to do it – if you can only stop yourself, which is sometimes difficult! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
50kw would be huge for a system boiler but I'm guessing yours is a combi?
WE have DG throughout, new filled cavities or injected cavities in all walls and of course latest spec roof insulation and underfloor installation in all the new bits. We have 3 big rooms downstairs, 5 bedrooms plus 4 bathrooms, hall landing and a utility so if you count every one of those as a room and split the 18kw that gives 1.2kw for each room = having a one bar heater on in each room which should be enough in a well insulated home.
The boiler is designed to remain on a minimum heat output needed to achieve the indoor temp running a a convecting temperature and with as few as possible on off cycles.I think....0 -

Dear (insert large car dealer name here),
If you think there's any chance of a £750k order next month from us after that little outburst by one of your staff, please think again. As a dealership, also be prepared to be placed firmly in the brown stuff with Head Office tomorrow.
Please be aware that you are banned from approaching our offices, my home address, and the premises we met today with immediate effect, and failure to do so will result in removal by Police and prosecution. If the CPS decide not to prosecute, a private prosecution will commence.
Please don't bother calling us, or contacting us regarding your 'offers', as this will constitute harassment. All information given by us must now be removed from your systems, and failure to do so may constitute an offence.
Many thanks!

I changed my Combi boiler to a Vaillant ecoTEC plus 837 condensing boiler last year after trawling forums and MSE to try and establish what was most suitable. My old one was done and had lasted well.
I've got 15 radiators but it was planned to be suitable for more if required.
I don't really notice much difference on my bills but it seems to work well.
The best thing for me was cavity wall insulation. I really noticed the thermostat click on much less after having that. Which means it was holding the heat better.0 -

I was reading through the information at local authority level and it turns out that St Albans is 11th in the country for the number of graduates living in its boundaries. Given that there are something like 2-300 local authorities in England, that's pretty impressive.

POSH ALERT
We have 2.5 bedrooms 1 bathroom and an outside loo.
We don't have an outdoor loo any more. We have an indoor downstairs loo and it's FABULOUS. It flushes, it has a light that always works. It shouldn't freeze. We have between two and four bedrooms depending on how crooked the estate agent is. My next winter it will definitely only have two bedrooms though.0 -
Only the poshest have a "gardeners" loo
I don't even have one loo of my own. I have to share it with whichever tom, !!!!!!, or harry is round here fixing the electrics or whatever. And they can feel free to start a new loo roll, and keep their shoes on. But they don't have to put the toilet lid down.0
