Many years ago I needed a ref to join some professional organisation. At the time I knew no-one still working in my field, a field in which I no longer was directly employed in. A work colleague offered to write a ref. In honesty he knew nothing about my area but he was the only person available. He wrote a load of bull, it worked.
I;ve also given names of work refs in the past that have never been followed up and also had work refs who were contacted to confirm they knew me, but no more. Many, many years ago I was positively vetted - a process so secret that no-one ever claimed that they had been contacted, so who knows how that process works.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
