I'll have to arrange a visit oop north 50 miles now I guess..... maybe 3-4 weeks' or so. LL's away for the next 2 weekends and so they're "relax mode" time, especially as it'll be the first 2 weeks and I'll need to settle into the routine etc. Then I should visit the old maybe (had another fall, I got the call earlier) .... but if I don't visit the NP close by I'll get a kicking :)

Many employers will not provide more than confirmation of dates of employment and number of days absent - so lots of references are useless.

As you have been self employed for two years a personal reference for that time would be sensible, if it also from a 'client' who can vouch for their satisfaction with whatever you did for them even better.

Some references are just to check that you have not spent the last 2 years in the nick or at a terrorist training camp.

I've mostly been self-employed "writing random !!!!!!" online ..... so no clients. And the clients I have had wouldn't want their names to be exposed as they're effectively paying for blog posts and articles with links, which many companies do clandestinely.

Ah! So more traceability than getting an ex employer to say I was their best employee ever. I do have a letter where I was nominated for an award for outstanding effort above and beyond the call and all that.... could slide that in too then. Major bank name that one is.

But ... the way the world works, he'll be on 2x what I get within a year and 4x what I'm on within 2 years ... :)

Not in the field he wants to go into. A job that paid would be nice.

Especially as even getting there costs money!

My new job's probably costing £5/day to get to. It adds up to over £80/month.... not insignificant.

I fear LIR may like it but to me it is just !!!!!! and i do like form to follow function and period to reflect actuality.

Anyone know an easy way to get everything form my old Android to my new one - it seems Titanium backup may be the answer but only if both phones are rooted. Th old one is already rooted (and flashed with a custom rom) but the new one seems more tricky - I have unlocked the boot-loader but don't really know what to do next :(
    I think....

I'm so clueless about smartphones I never realised Android was connected to google. And that it would load my phone with every email address that I've had contact with since 2005. So I can't find the very small number of phone numbers I actually use.:(

Mind you, I'm impressed how cheap they are to use if you only use wifi in free places and not when you're driving about everywhere.:D
