DS1 has been given his 1st interview, bless. I think its a question of timing, he applied yesterday and was offered what is the last interview slot available for next week. This is only for an internship, so way below PNs great achievement.

    Really pleased for you PN.

    Congratulations PN!!!

    and good luck for silvercar's DS1 :)

I'm writing a job specification. It's dreary. We've had to pitch for a higher grade so now I'm wondering what else I can offload to this poor sod

Anybody else noticed this thread's dropped back to its old reasonable-paced normal speed (took us four days not eight to reach this far last time).

Well .... not sure/really. If you mean the one who wrote the blog, met a girl, left MSE ... maybe, maybe not. It's all a bit 'tenuous'.

I'm lacking in what employers would call "good, proper, work refs".

Looking back in the past 15 years:

98: No trace, last time I found him he'd been to India and the company had specifically said no refs were to be given for old employments at previous companies.
99: Could track this one down - work/personal as I worked where she was a Director and we remained friends until she got a bloke and was never available any more (after 2008).
00-01: Contracting - bit of a long time ago to call on a contract ref from 12 years ago
01-02: Got made redundant, company's completely changed, all new staff. Wouldn't have records/remember me.
03-04: Could track down a guy I worked for for 15 months, but he's a bit of a funny geezer so could be unreliable and simply 'not bother'; he refused me permission to even have the statutory Employee Insurance document on the wall
05: Bloke I was doing self-employed work for did a runner, never paid me, last heard of somewhere in the US
06: Worked for 6 months - got made redundant, company sold, boss/Director teamed up with another 2-3 people and works for another company now, never replied to the last ref I requested.
07-08: Couple of temp bookings, nobody'd remember me, they probably don't keep records that long.
08-09: Couple of private contracts gleaned from the temping work - companies have been sold/bought out, all new staff. Nobody'd remember me.
10-12: Been "me doing my thing".

    To whom it may concern,

Pastures New has been with MSE since 2007, and tends to sit on the NPT all day. She works hard although is talkative and moves around a lot.

You should start with Howard Webb, if they want two try Pierluigi Collina (not sure how good his English might be), but whatever you do, don't use Graham Poll......he can't count
I don't think they mean "blokes in shorts" - it's not a gai web site :)

But ... the way the world works, he'll be on 2x what I get within a year and 4x what I'm on within 2 years ... :)

It's not related to me having been in "semi work mode" with interviews etc for 2 days... honest.

That should do it. Although I was thinking more along the lines of:

Never have I met a more entrepreneurial-spirited, innovative and free-thinking high achiever as PN. Her tenacity knows no bounds and if I need any more alligators killing in the Amazon she'll always be the top of my list of specialists to call in.

I guess this scuppers the rumours I was putting about that I was unemployable ... and has probably boosted the confidence of many others who thought they might not get a job because .... let's face it .... on paper, experience/ability aside, I don't tick any of the boxes employers like to see....

I think he liked the way my eyes lit up at the technical and non-technical aspects and I clearly was streets ahead in knowledge/experience/ideas than any other limp-wristed, lame candidates they'd also seen. I'm bl00dy marvellous at what I do ... I just usually c0ck up interviews, but happily stumbled across somebody that could see I was better than they ever hoped to find :)
