Oh - and "flu"? Don't be a wuss. If it's flu you wouldn't be able to get out of bed to wonder... it's just a nasty heavy cold thing0

How do you decide if you have the flu and need to go home? I have had a temperature for nearly 36 hours and despite paracetamol and ibuprofen and a woolen sweater I am constantly shivering
I think I've had the 'flu once. I couldn't stand up let alone go to work. In fact I couldn't do anything at all except sleep. I was in my mid-teens living with my parents thankfully as I couldn't do anything for myself.
I had tickets to see The Pogues so tried to get out of bed and collapsed! I broke an alarm clock:(. Goodness knows what would have happened if I'd had to care for myself.
Hope you get well soon. Have lots of soup and remember you can mix paracetamol and ibuprofen to your heart's content: you can take both up to the packet limits for a couple of days. You can't mix ibuprofen and aspirin though.
Never exceed the dosage limits. My mate got given some ibuprofen with an incorrectly printed label and so took a double dose for 2 days. He ended up with a nice helicopter ride from the races to hospital. Very exciting!0 -

Flu can give you any of these symptoms:- sudden fever - a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or above
- dry, chesty cough
- headache
- tiredness
- chills
- aching muscles
- limb or joint pain
- diarrhoea or upset stomach
- sore throat
- runny or blocked nose
- sneezing
- loss of appetite
- difficulty sleeping
When to visit your GP
If you are otherwise fit and healthy, there is usually no need to visit your GP if you have flu-like symptoms.
The best remedy is to rest at home, keep warm and drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
You can take paracetamol or ibuprofen to lower a high temperature and relieve aches.0 -

This is dire.....
Internet connection got harder... and now it won't be until a week into the new yeat (BT). No choice, back against the wall, had to 'choose' *snorts* an inferior, expensive connection with a huge contract ..... and at the end of that process I discovered it'd take 29 days from when I ordered it .... then, a week later, they emailed me with a new date a further 10 days later.
Remember... this might be the last post I make for several days ... or maybe my box/basket/tray combo ... might hold out for a while longer
You are very much missed PN, there is no one to keep those with 'posh tendencies' grounded. I assume you have tried dongles of all flavours....I think....0 -
Thanks for this viva, I was trying to find this info a few weeks ago - I always wonder whether some of the houses in the street that don't match and are post war were fill in for flattened sites although the one I was pretty convinced about is not shown on this site.
It may not be complete, there are likely to be some omissions, especially further out. It may be worth speaking to the local historical society in St Albans, IIRC they are a pretty active bunch. I've also looked on the catalogue and there are some items about WW2 in St Albans on the archive at St Albans library. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? As I work and work/live in a small place away from town, the only time to even try to chase these things would be the weekend... and buying more dongles wouldn't get a signal. You can't tell what will actually work in a space until you've chucked money at it. Allegedly this dongle is the best signal in the whole area.
TV signal's cr4p too, so had to give up on that. It breaks up, so you can watch a random 10-15 minutes/hour tops.
So, I am sitting on the floor, with a choppy TV staring at the laptop for hours every night hoping it'll [a] connect load a page [c] stay connected. Mostly it doesn't do those.... but I sit and keep trying as I have nothing else here, nothing else to do .... so I do it ... and do it .... and do it ....
I can't BELIEVE the bad luck re connection. Biggest problem is this address doesn't come up on the drop down lists to sign up for a service. Without that they won't take an order. Found the line is allegedly a BT one, so signed with BT, but they are changing the phone number and taking over 5 weeks (40 days by the time they've done it) to get me a phone and online.
That's really sh1tty0 -
Was there a satellite dish there pastures? I wonder if freesat from Sky or freesat may be a viable alternative.
Anyhooo, was it your Birthday? If so belated happy birthday. Yes it was. Not seen them - and won't be able to look until mid January as the pages here load sooooo slowly even when I am connected.0 -
Spanish tomatoes are grown in massive greenhouses in the costa del sol. See how big they are against a scale picture of London...
If you look closely, you can see my tomato greenhouse in the bottom left corner, to the left of the most southern reservoirPasturesNew wrote: »Found the line is allegedly a BT one, so signed with BT, but they are changing the phone number and taking over 5 weeks (40 days by the time they've done it) to get me a phone and online.

That's not only sh1tty, but ridiculous.
Hope you can sort it out somehow, PN. Miss you. x0
