Just watched "jewish mother of the year" with DS1. We were both hysterical. His comment, "If you've modeled yourself on any of them, you have failed." I think that is a compliment!
If anyone can't get enough of Emma Beck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtAzmvl8t8Q
Haven't looked at it yet, will do so a bit later. I bet I can guess which mother it is though
I was disappointed by the programme, not sure why, but I was hoping for it to be a bit more informative. I had already worked out that if you are making reality TV it is normal to pair people with others/ tasks that are incompatible, to try to get some excitement.0 -

It takes a LOT to take anybody down.
I don't think it does. It is like those domino things they set up

I think there are some key differences. Traditionally Jewish people have, for example, placed great emphasis on education, and even in families where roles are similarly gender stereotyped I think girls have more opportunity to educate themselves as to choices, even in tis sort of 'extreme' profile, than was shown on the gypsy programmes?0 -
I would also like to see the puppy picture please.
Pastures - well done.
I do not like programmes that exploit ethnicity and stereo types as entertainment - they feel like freak shows - I may be wrong about this 'mother' programme as I have not seen it and would not go looking for it.
Terms and conditions - 41 days including BH, a 37.5 hour week - but I gave myself lots of health conditions by working 50-60 hours for 2 decades.0 -

She went to great lengths to conceal her ethnicity ( she died at the end of the nineties, googling people was not so common, but it was still documented because she was in a big red book iykwim that didn't say it, but Did mention her marriage and it did say it there that he was.
There were arguments over things like Bar mitzvah and stuff. It created a great deal of family dischord with her in laws. ( who are arcing degrees of religious, from none to Rabbi).
She was however a strange mix of distance parenting and yet controlling.
My great great (I think, I may have too many greats or not enough!) grandparents on my dad's side hid their ethnicity too, changing the family name from Reubens (sp?) to Robins and banning any discussion of their faith once they arrived in this country. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I love name changes. I cannot share our family ones for obvious reasons, but one of them is very, very funny.
One seems to have a built in Liverpudlian accent (that's where the bearer arrived).0
