A couple of independently owned pound shops near me. I never understand how they manage to sell cleaning products for £1 that the big supermarkets sell for £3-5, makes me wonder if they are fakes or watered down!
They do seem to be odd named danish/ swedish/ norwegian shops opening up that have got the price/ interesting ideas ratio right.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Just saw first TV xmas add (Pringles I think)
Can't say I got on with poundland/99p shop, too much is either tat or is actually more expensive than regular shops.
I got a shaver adaptor at homebase for the ridiculous price (2.99 or something, got a much cheaper one from wilkinsons and the cheap one only works if you jam the toohtbrush plug in at a weird angle and use a heavy book to wedge it there.
I just saw one for John Lewis. Proclaiming that because they aren't having a fancy Christmas one they can give more to charidee. Though the advert is very staged with an 'empty warehouse' type backdrop, and features Delia and Heston. Hmmmm... Surely most of the cost of an ad campaign is the tv slot? And I'm sure it took some highly creative sorts to come up with that?
My adaptor seems fine so far (or it did when I worked out just how much force was required to push the 2 pin plug in).0 -

There was a Scandinavian shop called 'Tiger' (I think) in Harrow of all places. It was quite good. Lots of funny little things.
Lots of the home and cosmetic things in poundland type places are imports from elsewhere (look at the packaging, often it is in another language), or smaller sizes than normal. I think some of the stuff is short dated/ clearance stock too (when there was Stila? stuff in poundland the company came out and said that they were lines that hadn't been sold anywhere for years). I suppose some of them may be fakes too though.0 -

This campaign is memorable for me because it is so awful. I have not seen it on TV but heard it on the radio and yesterday stood opposite a poster for it whilst waiting for the train.
Pound shops - been in one .....once.
hawkins bazaar - quirky things for stocking fillers. The kind of junk cleared off a worksurface and thrown away in January.
Just watched the Alistair Cooke programme. His voice...oh wow. His letters from america were definitely on the soundtrack to my first 20 years of marriage.0 -
I haven't seen any of these Christmas ads and I have had the television on a lot recently. I must be very lucky!
We have banned chistmas tat. Dh and I usually indulge in some nice smellies for shared baths and I buy dh a chocolate orange. We get a few other stocking fillers, but try and buy stuff that's useful.
(I know this year I am getting some conditioner, and he gets some underwhelmed/pants most years).0 -

I want to say they are £1, but not 100% certain. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I love those! Especially Clas Ohlson. I go in there and see so many things that I wonder how I've managed to get this far into my life without realising I need one.
There's something also about the clean lines and minimalist styling that implies quality. Shhhhhh! :shhh:
That would be a hint to close the line down if any efficiency experts/ sado-monetarists etc were reading the threads.
Well, it has gone from a train with several carriages to a single carriage one and from a train every 20 minutes to once an hour. There would be an uproar if the service was cancelled, think they earn all the money on the morning and evening trains for people going to/from work and college.

On other subject. I find the endearment used online 'Hun' very odd. I cannot help thinking of warlike People as in Attila the or as in ww type German stereotype. Neither seems endearing.
I just find it false and very very annoying, especially when it is strangers saying it.We made it!
