    So today I have
    1. Ironed for the first time in,ages
    2. Driven to work for the first time ever
    3. Driven back from work for the first time ever
    4. Oh, and had my first day at my first proper grown up job!!

Quite a lot of faces I recognise, and everyone seems very.friendly. Haven't done anything taxing today, but did get taken for lunch which was nice :) Pizza on the oven and bottle of ale open as a self-awarded celebratory treat. Here's hoping this is just the start of getting back on some kind of track, which I thought I had completely lost :)
    Hurrah at all that.

    :)

I notice that both nikkster and pn have started new jobs on a Monday. Is this by default?
I have never been the chooser. Employers, in my vast experience, want you either "ASAP/can you start this week?" or "Start on Monday the ...." whether that be the soonest one or a future one. But always a Monday, at the business hours' start time.

Now .... in my mind, it'd be better to start a new person at, say, 10am, when the boss/team have got all the immediate morning questions/panics out of the way .... and are organised enough to receive a new person..... or, better, a short first week by starting Wednesday (say).

But no ... they always want a Monday.

The amount he and his dw get acheived Is constantly humbling, I am so in awe of them.
Maybe he just sits on his bum all day drinking beer..... and makes it up :)

utility room? that is an alien concept in flats. if there ever was one, then it would have been converted into a bedroom years ago.
This is true.... flats aren't spacious, luxuriant spaces.... they don't even usually have bathrooms because one tiny shower room means they can squeeze in 1 bedroom, or another one.

    Course.

It's a good idea for when your looking for your house though if it's within budget.
A utility room is on my wishlist.... but you only start to get those once you move up the pecking order a bit :)

Well, dog dogs dressing has been patched up from outside.
Half a roll of gaffa tape'll fix it.

    Hurrah! Well done.

Now, a question, I notice that both nikkster and pn have started new jobs on a Monday. Is this by default? I have always tried to start new things on a Tuesday or Wednesday (if five day week) so I get enough of a flavour before a weekend, but without that first week spaced out by the end of it feeling. Is it me that's odd?

Dh still not heard back apart from that they have ruled all but him and one other person out. (the other person had not interviewed a second time at that point.). We are trying to work out if we can afford for him to take a short break between jobs. Even if it's a week it's something.

It depends. I started this job on a Tuesday because it was the 3rd of January (or something like that).

But I prefer people to start on a Monday because there's always something to sort out that will take all week for them to settle in. (our IT service is particularly rubbish!!)

In the holiday flat, the utility room is off the bathroom.

It hardly qualifies as a room, open the door too far and you hit the sink. To the right is the washing machine with dryer on top. To the left is the sink, but you have to walk in the room and close the door to reach the sink. Straight ahead is a window with sliding panels and outside that is a dryer line that angles up and down so you can put clothes out on the furthest rungs without falling out of the window. There is only one place to stand in the room, spot centre. The whole room probably measures 3 foot x 6 foot.
