I'm going for a curry tonight near where Nikkster is leaving.

We're pretty spoilt for choice locally, there are some excellent curry houses, even in the villages - especially in the villages! I hope tonights is good, the one we went to last week was just gorgeous.

    Good luck for Monday, nikki!

Ooh - I'm curious about where you are going now! Hope it lives up to expectations :)

Since I've been back the only times we've been to eat out have been when I've been paying. We're more of an eat in with a bottle of wine family, but when I'm more financially independent I do like trying new places to eat out.

I think we were over your way briefly on Monday if there is a DVLA office there?

My advice is: don't go into central London at the weekend cos it's full of bladdy tourists ;)

    What do you fancy?
    Olymopic area? Covent Grader
    Leicester Square?
For decent grub- The Stockpot chain (non-bookable)
    Finding shops- use streetsensations.
An Oyster card's useful and take the bus from your train station rather than the tube (which is a madhouse and looks identical to Glasgow/Newcastle), and sit on the upper deck. If you're crossing the Thames, all mainline trains from Charing Cross stop at London Bridge 5 mins later (but it's not on any tube map).

Will try to think of mofre but DD's coming home today so been shifting furniture all morning.:)

    Thanks zag :)

I think we are getting a combined bus ticket / tower thing. I'm not sure if it includes the river trip. The museums do sound very appealing, and as for food, simple will do us well.

It's funny, I've worked north of London, but I'm a noob when it comes to knowing the place.

Now if it were Paris, I'd have no problems. It's probably a poor reflection on me really.

We're going to a place called Cardamom. It's maybe not as near to you as I thought it was but it's nearer to you than I am right now.

I don't live near the DVLA office anymore,We live about 20. Minutes north, but you are right, our barn we had is about three minutes away from the DVLA's barn :)

I wrote a longer post but lost it when I tried to post it (it timed out on me so what I've reposted was the gist of it).
I love cities. Can't "get" the countryside.
I've been here too long (over 25 years) to remember what it's like to look for interesting stuff. need to see the shard and Oluymic village myself. Was chatting to someone yesterday who invented the "walking maps" idea for London during the olympics. Should have asked him where to get a copy!:)
Anyway hope yiou enjoy your visit!

Yes, not so close but not that far away either. Hope it is good, looking at the menu I'm glad we are having curry for dinner tonight (at my special request, though not homemade) :D

I was just thinking that we were in your general direction, didn't realise you were once so close to it!

Right, having succeeded at the lie-in part of todays 'things to do' list, I really should at least pretend to do some packing. Otherwise I'm in for a telling off when someone gets home from work

    Mornin NPs :)

Kab clan are off to the great city of Londinium tomorrow on the train, for a very short break.

Of course, my role in all this is as a passenger in all senses of the word. I've no idea where we are staying; where we plan to go (some museums and a Tower?); what we do about eating; etc , etc.

    I'm a veritable model of consistency ;)

Any good value suggestions in London would be welcome off the knowledgeable peeps here. I will of course try and pass these off as my own thoughts to DW, but she will suss me out instantly!

I think your role in all this is to bring your wallet :D

So, I saw a place and it's not "perfect", but it's fine.... and as you can only view one place/week maximum it'll have to do :)

Monday I'll tell them it'll have to do and then I go through the terrifying credit/ref checks nonsense.

It's not furnished though .... so I'll need a camping mat to sleep on and a microwave.... then I'll need to get a washing machine and small fridge/freezer after I've moved in. Oh - and a telly.

It's a 1-bed small bungalow, so, I'd use the bedroom for storage and sleep in the living room part (think 7'x'8' at a guess).

I am looking at the positives and ignoring its shortcomings....

LOL.... you Northerners and your cold weather :)

Oh, oh, oh, what's it doing? It's about 19 here :D

I'm currently in Tiraspol, just filled up with fuel on the way to Odessa. Just for YBM, 19,416 miles on the car right now, and it'll be over 20k by Monday night, as we're casually popping over to Dnipropetrovsk for the day. :)

I'm doing the 7th km market tomorrow, and it'll be interesting to see how much crap my car can get into it

We have put some wonky posts in and are now refuelling with tea as my hands have frozen solid. D and I forgot there was a builder here and made tits of our selves fencing with two cardboard tubes.

So much to do and to day is running out of time already......
