Anything that ran away was "prey" and he would chase it. He never caught anything - I don't know what he would have done with it if he had.

    :)

Ours likes to chase squirrels but (luckily) never catches anything either. It's always the same....squirrel detected...chase chase...squirrel shoots up a tree...and then he stands there looking left and right wondering where it went.

Did you ever think about getting another dog, Lydia?
I must say I wasn't really a 'dog person' before we got westie (it was my wife who nagged me into it), but I definitely would miss not having a dog around now.

I've got a large Springer which keeps me fit on our long walks. Enjoys chasing Foxes, Pheasants and Deer. Never caught anything though!

Dog dog caught mauve squeaker in a field when she was young. It was all very scary, she wa mortified I think when she realised.

I am amazed mauve squeaker ever gorgave her though.

They get on very well now, but mauve squeaker hates and fears big dog, and will not stay I a room wit big dog and no humans.

The official policy that I tell the kids is that we might get another dog when the kids are old enough to walk it without me. Or when the hamster dies. Which will probably be about the same time.

One problem is that I would prefer a rescue dog, but would be unlikely to be allowed one given how long we are out of the house each day. Will have to address that when it comes to the point.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

My dog doesn't understand the third dimensionm. Once a squirrel heads up a tree or a bird takes off, they have simply left the "prey plane" and he looks baffled!:D

That is the main reason I am moving into a flatshare not via an agent...
