DVR/PVR. Records TV onto hard disk rather than say VHS tapes etc.
We have a Humax PVR. Highly recommended. Fairly old model now. DVR-9200T. Still great.
Not even sure of it's capacity without checking but any DVR is gonna have a problem eventually if you store stuff forever Lydia. There used to be DVR/DVD recorders. Presume they're still aorund. Idea being if you want to keep something long term you transferred it from HD to DVD.
Haven't read up on them for ages now but wouldn't surprise me if there are now some you can transfer easily to external HD to keep??0 -

We just got one of these which Tesco sell every now and again on their ebay outlet but not sure if it can record two shows at once. It will do iplayer and dnla (plays media from your lan) and with all the recordings (except HD ones that are encrypted for some reason) you can view what you have recorded over the local lan or indeed copy it on to lan storage to view using this box or any other lan device. WE don't really ever record tho (use online catchup for most shows) so can't tell you how user friendly the recoding is. Price is obviously very friendly, is reduced because the 'fetch TV' service it launched with is no longer active but this doesn't matter imho.
Edit: Can record two shows at once.I think....0 -
Never thought about the movies question so off the top of my head:
Point Break
Grosse Point Blank
umm...
I'll think of some more in a bitI think....0 -

Lord of the Rings (can it count as one? pleeze?)
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The Matrix
Gladiator
In Bruges
Leon
Kick !!!
Caddyshack
Life of Brian/Holy Grail (usually Holy Grail but occasionally it's gotta be Brian)
Road to Perdition
This is Spinal Tap
Italian Job
Black Hawk Down
Highlander
Usual Suspects
Inception
It's a Wonderful Life
The King's Speech
Usual Suspects gets an honourable mention for me. Sixth Sense is one of my favourites 5 just 'cos it's so clever; and Usual Suspects almost matches it for that! By the same token Vanilla Sky, The Spanish Prisoner, Jacob's Ladder tick the same boxeds but didn't quite make it in.:beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Top 5 in no particular order:
A Day at the Races (some great lines in there)
Blazing Saddles (this scene meant The Producers got edged out)
Leon
Bad Taste (Much better than Lord of the Rings, same Director, again some great lines)
Cinema Paradiso (I'm just an old softie in the end)
Honorable mentions to The Seven Samurai; Godfather Pt II; The Good, The Bad and The Ugly; The Usual Suspects; The Chain (a really lovely British film); Alien; Taxi Driver; Apocalypse Now and loads of others.0 -
I could list every film I've seen at a cinema... Bambi, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Stardust, Jaws, Cocktail, Saving Private Ryan, Titanic, Ocean's Eleven, Charlie/Chocolate Factory. I think that's it.0

Shawshank Redemption
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
Moon
Hard Candy
Goodfellas
Hard Candy and Moon are great examples of movies which can be made on a modest budget (a few million) and compete with the big boys.0 -
