I've only got one shelf, it's pretty much full of: frozen loaf, frozen crumpets, frozen chips and frozen quorn sausages already.

    And I don't like beer :)

A new indian's opened and usually a veg biryani's £7 on everybody else's menu, but this one does them for £5 and they're just as good as the other one I tried.

    One biryani = 2 meals.

Reminding myself I have chips in the freezer.... I could just knock up a cheese omelette, chips and beans. I'll do that. I'll get an indian another time.

Loving being "home alone" .... it's reminded me how lovely living alone is .... LL's back in 3 days :(

Yesterday ust popped into waitrose for bread for DS, saw curry deal 2 mains 2 snacks & rice for £10 but got half-price whoopsied curries (beef masala) and peshwari naan brought the two dinners down to £4.60 the lot.

Enjoyed the first half last night, froze the rest. reheated curry is better than freshly made I do beklive and gthe earlier ibn the day you eat it the more fireand bite it has.

Not had curry for breakfast yet but one day I must try that!

That would have been nice :( But we paid for ours and now we're getting someone in to raise the joists so we can have it as a useable space and have the maximum insulation.

We have to get everything out of there in 3 weeks. Nightmare :(

The previous owners of my house had the loft insulation beefed up to the recommended thickness everywhere that hasn't been boarded. Under the boards, though, the insulation is still pathetically thin. One of the things I have planned for the next year or so is to get the joists raised so I can have proper thick stuff everywhere, and new boards put back higher up. It means getting a new hatch and a different kind of ladder, though.
    23-30 minutes.
Today I did the "new journey" in both directions; it's a dream.... and 5+ miles is literally following the beach/coastline, right along the cliff road :)
It's just taken me 21 minutes to get home with no traffic on the roads.

    Yay! :)
Well, I survived the week ..... and got invited to a colleague's house for coffee. Hence my very late arrival. I'll probably be going out/round there again as the colleague's older/single too and fairly newly arrived.

    Even more yay! :D

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Out of interest Lydia, did you have to have your roof reinforced to have solar? We are considering fitting solar over the next couple of years and are trying to think of things that may bump up the cost.

One of the neat things we have in our roof is a hoist to lift stuff up into the loft. It was designed to lift car engines in, but we just plug it in anytime we want to store anything big up there, like suitcases, or heavy stuff, and it just lifts it in for us. It's a bit Heath Robinson though, we sent most stuff up in big blue Ikea bags as they fit perfectly through the hatch and hold lots of things.

Chips are in now. I've got about 15 (12's a portion, so 15's a piggy treat). They're bigguns, so packet says 30-35 minutes.

Our loft is empty since being insulated. The insulation makes it difficult to see where the joists were. A spare bedroom has become the dumping ground for things like suitcases and unwanted wedding presents.

    I bought based on best/cheapest per 100g .... so savvy alert :)
£1.07/Kg they were. In the shop I was in they were the cheapest "fat chips" that day.

Seeing we're on about insulation. I think cavity wall insulation is worth it if you have got the right type of house.

I noticed the heating was coming on far less without changing the thermostat after getting cavity wall insulation.

The impact may be less if your semi-detached and not got a north facing wall.
