I have just filled up my Tesco savers stamps card :) I have been saving them by adding a £ here and there when I have a pound coin in my purse. And then I also exchange any spare change to pound coins to put on there. SO now we have £50 towards christmas treats just for us :) Feels good seeing that card all filled up... Am I sad???
no it is with enormous relief to see alot of people saving...and to know that come christmas we wont be sucked in with the rest of those people who borrow at christmas then spend the rest of the year paying for it...save save save is the name of the game...so well done you...happy shopping at christmas...years and years ago I would get into debt every christmas now I just save all year buy stuff that's alot cheaper than they would be in december and totally enjoy christmas knowing that I paid for everything instead of thinking how am I going to pay this off in time for next year...:D

The bit I don't understand with the tesco christmas stamps thing, is that if I save £50 on a card, can I spend say £30 of it on one shop and £20 another day?

    Thanks

I agree! We started saving £2 coins in May (after we had spent our last collection on holiday) and now have nearly £100 towards our Christmas. OH can't believe it! Don't know whether we are lucky or unlucky to have collected so many in such a short space of time :rotfl:

It is great to know we have this money already for presents, different/treat foods and so on.

Hello  - new to this thread.
No - you're definitely not sad. If you are, then I am too :D I save the bits of money I earn here and there doing surveys, shop through Quidco, use my Boots advantage card etc etc - got more than enough now to deal with all the Christmas bills, which is a lovely feeling.

Thanks for the welcome - good to be here :T I keep finding all sorts of sections of MSE that I hadn't come across before. I LOVE saving money - crikey - 'save' and 'money' never used to appear in the same sentence in my vocabulary in life before MSE :o:D

I know what you mean Pam - Ive been trying to save for ages for christmas but ive learnt being prepared is better than saving and having a mad dash at the end. any money i am managing to get thats extra im saving up so i can put them altogether and at christmas can give bf a check to help pay off his debts quicker - although i expect i will send it off and just get a recipe sent from the debt company saying they have received it!

  • Oh dear I have been sucked in and it's only just August!!

I would like to put together a gardener's/gardening kit for my BIL - he is very keen and likes to grow his own veg/herbs etc and isn't so interested in flowers! Any ideas as to what I could put into his plant pot?

I just got dad packs of seeds & herbs from the Poundland shop, the chain shop that is branded green... clear as mud???
I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing's going to bring me down

On the subject of baskets, go to summer fetes and jumble sales.

Earlier this year I bought a lovely wicker hamper for £1 from a jumble which I'm going to fill with foodie treats for my dad and yesterday for 50p I bought a very cute small wicker basket for my sisters gifts to go inside.

For and alternative 'hamper' how about an indoor plant pot holder. There are always loads in charity shops/jumbles etc and perhaps a could be filled with a few co-ordinating coloured smellies?
...it is not of more importance than daily life, which I have an enduring wish to make as useful and beautiful as possible.

Definitely not sad! I started one for the first time a few weeks ago and have been adding a couple of quid here and there too. I'm going to use it for the big Christmas shop (ie. meaning it will pay for my bottle of gin at Christmas :p ).
