Well Chiristmas has started here :rotfl::rotfl: DD is watching Christmas videos today until OH gets in :D We're going to be practicing some of the baking we're doing this year for gifts during the summer hols and I'm going to be teaching her to knit & do cross-stitch as well ;)

I'm doing rum and raisin fudge, marshmallow and everton toffee.

Does anyone know where I can get a free pattern for flat boxes we can make. I think there called shirt boxes, also wax paper, just where do you buy this?

Sounds lovely, Phatmouse - let me know if you need anybody to test them ;) (purely for quality control purposes, obviously!!:rotfl: ).

Can't help with a box pattern, but wanted to say that we made truffles a couple of years ago for Christmas pressies and we put them into ready made "video" boxes from WHSmith (normally at Christmas time they have ready made festive boxes in set sizes - video, DVD, CD, etc - in the wrapping paper section). They were very strong, and came with little elasticated ribbons (the sort that go over opposite corners - i.e. top left, bottom right) and gift tags already attached. Priced at £1.99 each , they were stupidly expensive, but we picked them up in the sale when they were 49p each , and they really made the truffles look good... We have picked up others since then - they always seem to be reduced into the sale - we bought 4 in January this year at 50p each but on BOGOF so they are getting cheaper(!):p. I normally stick to plainer colours (gold/silver/red) as they can also be used throughout the year for birthdays and anniversaries. We then bought some really cheap (thin) festive wrapping paper and cut it to fit inside the box so it lined it and wrapped round and across the top of the truffles, and printed out a list of descriptions/flavours in fancy font from the computer and placed it into the box as well.

Maybe not so helpful for this year, unless you have the nerve to hold out until they start reducing things in the few days before Christmas :o, but worth bearing in mind for another year. Just for the record, we managed to fit 6x4 decent-sized truffles into each box, and they went down a storm - several of Mr P's family didn't believe that they were homemade because they looked so professional - they thought we'd spent a fortune on fancy chocolates from an independent handmade chocolate shop!! :D

Firstly welcome to the thread any newbies!!! R.MAC - congratualtions on the wedding - would hate to come home on Christmas Eve though!!! Just for the simple fact that if id forgotten anything id do nothing but panic!!! ...........................Phatmouse - I have a pattern (?) of how to make a box to hold treats in. I use it when i make homemade tablet which i might do this year. Its pretty easy - the only thing is it ties up with a basic ribbon at the top and looks like a square spier shape (do you know what i mean?) looks nice though - was also thinking you could also make little net baggies and put a selection in there. Also if you need wax paper the local coop have a brand but try a cooking shop im sure they'll have some - or how about finding some of those mini cupcake cases and settign each sweetie in that.(again any good cooking shop) do you have a lakeland (think its that shop) near you?? because they do them
    Time to find me again
