Hi BenedictIm makign it for my younger step brother and sister (aged 13 +15). In my movie night hamper im going to put+ box of sweet popcorn+ box of salted popcorn+ bag of liqourice laces+ bag of haribo sweets+ bag of choccie covered raisins+ bag of wine gums+ a teddy each in case they get a scary movie+ cuddly blanket to cuddle in (seeing as it will be christmas!)+ money in an envelope for pop+ a dvd box with two dvd vouchers (off pigsback)That way there is enough popcorn and sweets they can have mates over. Or they can cuddle up on the sofa with my dad and step mum and have a family night out of it. I guess you could do a more adult version (nto in a rude sense but add a few cans of beer, peanuts etc) or you could make one for a younger child and have a theme - like harry potter or barbie and say use a magicians cape to line the basket and put a wand in it (actually i quite like that idea) and maybe have a tiara and fairy wand for a little girl or whatever you decide is best. I figured this was easiest as my step sister (15) has extrmely sensitive skin so make up etc was out of the question and she has food allergies and my step brother is more the recluse and likes his own company.

    Hi all :)

Anyone got some ideas for a couple of hampers I'm hoping to do? I've got the base, and am looking for the extras so to speak.

Two cookery hampers, one based around Nigel Slater's Real Fast Food/Real Fast Puddings books, and the other based around an Italian and Mediterranean cookbook - both for couples/young families.

And also a 'cosy/comfort' hamper for 80 year old Grandma - have a Laura Ashley throw and need something to add to it - unfortunately Grandma is not the easiest person to buy for at the best of times - doesn't like sweets or choc and doesn't have any hobbies.

    Any thoughts?

    :)

Then you could if she’s say a tea drinker put in a box of nice biscuits for her, or maybe even a few little preserves - you know the mini ones you get in cafes in the jars. or a little bottle of her favourite tipple (my great auntie at 94 still liked a tipple of sherry before bed).As for the food hampers – if you want to make a hamper around one of Nigel Slaters books why don’t you find a recipe in one of the books that you think the family will like then bookmark the page and include the ingredients in the basket so they can have a go at making it.Also for the Italian food basket (if its for a couple ) you could do the same and include a nice Italian wine so that the couple could make a romantic dinner at home for themselves.

cookery hampers: second the idea of picking a recipe from one of the books :) place in a wooden fruit or veg box (see if you can get one from the local market fruit and veg stall...)
The Italian one - get lots of italian and med goodies - you can get these from Tesco etc or if you go to the BBC good food shows then there is always a stall there that does £5 bags and £10 bags - these are always good value and full of italian food goodies. Make sure you include pasta and present in a nice big collander and wrap in celophane.

Nan's... hmmm How about treating her to a nice lunch somewhere nice? Or more MSE make her a photo album of the kids, grandkids etc, put in home made cookies/cake, maybe if cooking is difficult for her these days offer to make her home made meals and stocker her freezer with say 10 portions so she has good home made meals ready to microwave? As it'll be winter I'd go for good hardy soups and stews. Maybe if she likes wine add a few single glass bottles of wine (you can get them from tesco).

    GoodLuck
