  • Oh Kat, Many, many, congratulations. You are almost past the "Finish Line". I have followed your thread since last January and you truly are an inspiration. They should teach MSE in the schools and I am sure your journey to debt freedom would be required reading!! :money::money:

    Have a great day folks.

Is your last loan payment, the actual last payment of the loan or are you paying it off early? If it's the actual final payment the interest will already be included. If you're paying it off early, ring them and ask for a final payment amount for the date you intend to pay it. That way interest won't be lingering into 2014.
  • Good Morning all... I almost got into explaing my sillynness on the Challenge thread but scrubbed and came here quickly instead...:p

SkintLittleFingers - thank you for the kind words. I think all little people should be taught this malarky. I am impressed that you have been following for so long though!

So HM I am paying this off early and you are right I will call them today or tomorrow. Can you believe I have managed it two years early!!! My bank know me and since I am from a small Northern Irish town, my Dad is self-employed and my Mum does all his taxes etc AND she is the treasurer of our church my bank know me by site. They call me if anything is wrong etc and they are very hands on at fixing problems should they arise. They ensured I was able to over-pay per month without penalty, ensured there was no PPI added and had a low interest rate. So not all bad!

However I spoke with the one lady that I always deal with in person last year. I had to arrange an overdraft to pay for my bike insurance, TAX and MOT and in the same breath ordered her to reduced the loan by £350 a month. She thought I was mad. This was back when I wanted rid of a mere £4000 or so pennies before the end of the year.

She laughed when I said I would have the entire loan paid off by the end of 2013. I am going to ask to speak to her when I call them...:T:T:T

So this morning I paid off the lump sum to the loan. But clearly didn't realise the bank automatically take £297.43 every month. I paid off in total £1740.13 leaving me with the well rounded figure that is in my signature.

I am being VERY open and honest here folks about my wage and life so you know just how I do it and can possibly apply aspects to your own life.

I pulled in £2645 this month. I only officially earn £1855. The rest was overtime when I nearly killed myself working every hour I could get my hands on.

I pay tithe to my church - who are not government supported. My faith as a Christian has allowed me to look on the bad times and laugh. My life is in the hands of something a lot bigger than fate. My tithe is 10% of what I earn - this is an act of faith. This is a lot of money to some folks. Where is goes is not my business - the Bible asks us to trust in God, return to Him what He has given to us - and give a portion of your good fortune to further his works. This I can easily do and have done every month of this year. I think it has been repaid in the excessively and sometimes shocking distribution of overtime that has come my way.

So I paid my tithe accidentally to my debt this month. So will double tithe next month. I also paid the amount my Mum gives me today despite not recieving it from her until the 8th.

On the 8th of this month I will transfer £63.13 to my CC on top of the £130 I will transfer this month as I paid for my TAX and MOT and License photo replacment etc up front but was going to transfer £75 to the "pot" anyway in both Nov and DEc - so my plan is not out of whack just yet.

Some of the remaining £140.. which would amount to £76.87...will be added to the loan. This will be £70.

Bringing my remaining total owed to £470.

On the 31st NOvember I will pay...

    • £297.43 automatically via the bank.
    • £140 from my Mother again
    • and the last remaining £32.57 from my own account.
Then I will be debt free. I intend to make £32.57 this month from eBay.:T:T:T.. which means being debt free in exactly a year.. not so much 457 days but 365.. I think....

So watch this space ..... eBay here I come..(Free Listing This Weekend)..

    Onwards and Upwards!!!

NSK you are so inspiring! I particularly like that you also pay to your church, even whilst obliterating your debts each month, as I feel we all need to help others. I am not religious but I ensure that I make regular contributions to many charity (but nothing on your 10% scale). I feel very proud of you (even though I've never met you!). Well done, you are a great role model for me :)

  • Oh thank you Fmess. I think it keeps me going knowing I have to admit everything on here! Ha! Yes church / donations of any kind are important. Everyone has their way of "helping" and hopefully what goes around comes around. I amglad I make you proud though!! :T

  • Well I would like to announce to no one in particular that I went to the workplace gym today and actually worked up a sweat! Part of my debt free afterlife will be to get super fit. I used to be 11 stone of pure muscle from working out so hard now I am at 12.5 stone and 38.7% bodyfat! It kinda makes me sick! However when you are going to bed at 0100 and getting up at 0500 the last thing you think about is gyming...

I wanted to get my diet in check and that I have now managed too. I was living on energy drinks at one point and new this could not continue. I was going to the gym now and then although this was after a 3 hour nap when I got home from work. This was not normal.

So the vegan lifestyle and plant based energy seems to be working for me. I know it's not for everyone and it's not something that I would ever push on someone ( my friends got a little defensive over the weekend) but I think correcting my eating patterns and what I ate has proven extremely beneficial to my energy levels. In that I have what I think is natural "get-up-and-go" and not the caffeinated version ( my spelling is BAD)...

So with healthy eating comes the adage of consuming enough water. This has staved my excessive eating in general. Now that I have this energy I need to burn it off. Que my colleague who has written a programme for me with weights involved and not just cardio.

Although I was 1-click away from ordering a new ipod today as my old one got wet and I know I have the hard cash to pay for it come Decemeber. But I resisted.

And I might be full of the joys of spring right now after only session number 1 but I know whats coming. And I need a goal to remain focused. I nearly signed up for Tough Mudder next year after hearing one of my Contenders talking about it. But I am not stupid. So I shall be hundting for something once I figure out if my knee is strong enough ( chondramalasia patella incase you are wondering)....

So that is my witterings for the day. Although I KNOW I need a new ipod it's WHEN that is the question. ...............yes yes I know when I am debt free...;-)

Just popping by NSK to wish to well for your DF future, you are so close to the finish line now, a reward for all your hard work and effort.

You have inspired so many - i made my account after reading your diary - it's mind boggling to think just how much debt has repaid by members following your challenges.

    Thanks Kat :)

  • Iwillsuceed - nice to have you back on the thread with your MASSIVE letters!..;- ).. So that is a LOT of spending that you have been doing?. A question if you don't mind. Do you have an out-standing CC and a Payday Loan whilst holding a lot in savings? Am I reading that right? I am just curious as to why you might have that much in savings whilst having debt...? But please correct me if I am wrong...

Hello Ninjakat! apologies for the big letters, was not my intention :-)
To answer your questions, PL stands for personal loan which has now been paid fully :-) the second CC is in a free interest and is to be paid fully on the first week of December :-)

As for the savings, my main aim was to save 13,000, however I have not saved any money at all since August and I know this is because of my big expenses and payments to the PL, CC1 and CC2 which I did not take into account initially.
Perhaps if I did not have many days out I would save even more but November and December are always very expensive months for me with many gatherings and friends being in touch to catch up etc, etc ...las week, I had a date out every single day of the week, this Sunday I felt very exhausted and sick just thinking about all my outgoings.... this week I cancelled all coffee, lunch, and dinner outs and I am feeling much better.
This evening, my husband asked me after dinner if I would like to go out for a walk then to the pub... I said not and come here to distract myself from being so tempted..
    Sending love..
    No debts 🙌
  • Excuse me one moment...

    Grrrrrrrr!!!!

    :mad::mad::mad:

    Sorry about that.

So I have to move house! Again! My landlady came into my room last night just as I was getting ready for bed to tell me at dinner that night her boyfriend of one year proposed and they are getting married next September. He is moving in in February and I have to move out on the 1st. I am so annoyed!!!

I don't begrudge her another husband ( she is 59 years old ) but I am sick to death of living according to the whims of another person. I had a surplus of £700 after I would be debt free that would be split as such...
    1. £100 - Dinner for my family as celebration of being debt free when I go home for Christmas.
    2. £20 each (4 people) for a gift of their choosing.
    3. £85 - renew my british passport which runs out in February.
    4. £30 - Australian citizenship certificate.
    5. £155 - Australian Passport
    6. With the rest going towards a flight booked home for the 1st September next year with a forwarding flight to Thailand on the 1st October. Something to aim for and look forward to.
Now I can't do much of this. My Mum has suggested an MSE Christmas which it would have been anyway but I would have liked to relax for once.

If I use the money for all of the above, January's debt free money will have to go torwards the deposit for a new house, this money was supposed to be the first payment towards my "holiday funds".... I am sure I will get the deposit back from this landlady in full but the last one took 7 months and I don't think I have the strengh to deal with this all over again.

Honestly - when I thought I was getting a break and things we happening for the better this comes up. I am just so angry... Landlady said I can't go travelling on the 1st as she is getting married on teh 19th... lovely of her to think I might want to come but I wasn't really in the mood to be happy for her with that bombshell so I doubt I would want to attend the wedding. It might sound harsh but I want a rented room not a new best friend.

On the plus side I would not have been in the position I am with money guaranteed in December to confirm a deposit if I had not embarked on this debt free joureny. See folks you never know what is coming your way so it's best to be prepared!!!

I intend to down-size considerably so this might not be a bad thing after all. The only issue is that not many flat in my area allow for a cat and a motorbike. So I think I might be looking a little further out and away from friends again and the perfect train link to work I currently have....

So there you go. Rant complete.

I Will Succeed - big letter make me smile. Never apologise!!! :T .... Ha ha on the PL... that's what I get for assuming! Sorry honey I didn't mean to make you seeth.. I know they are things that most people avoid like the plague so I wasn't trying to insinuate anything!! However you seem to be making a massive change. I was out all last week as well and can see how money can be spent - I managed to spend nothing though - yes it needs to feel like something that HAS to be done and that there is no alternative otherwise it will be to easy to spend pennies that all add up!

Thank you for the love and appreciation from you Jonesy88 and Indebted I really apreciate it. Now then - any of you need a lodger??:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
