I'm sorry you're having problems with your overtime Kat. But don't get disheartened, you're doing amazingly.

    Yay twiddler!

Anyone else panicking about retirement? I'm 22 and to get a reasonable pension apparently I need to put away £200 a month. That's going to dent my saving plans...
  • I cant say im panicking about retirement, i pay into a pension :). I dont watch the news so havent heard what your talking about. Hope everyone is ok, it seems quiet x

    Hey happy,
As far as I know there is nothing in the news about pensions that should bother you (maybe the new state pension..?), I've been using calculators to work out some of my long term goals. : )

    How are you?

I have had a rotten day at work. Truly, utterly rotten.
  • Hey all

Peaty why such a bad day at work?? :( Sorry to hear that!

I have 2 days at work this week and then am travelling to Nottingham on Friday with Jellytot. Going to be a hectic weekend with bridesmaids dress fittings and hen party etc, so not really looking forward to it. Still, time with the bestie and my parents & will get to see my sister and nephew on the Sunday & my grandparents on the Friday afternoon :)

Peaty, as for the pension... I refuse to worry about it. By the time I (I'm 26) get to pensionable age I will be 75 at the very least judging by the way they keep moving the goal posts. And I am not planning on living that long to be honest. I find it objectionable putting that much money into a pension as it instantly gets halved for your spouse upon your death or worse, if you don't have one, it just disappears into the ether. Based on your calculation of £200pm, why not put it into an ISA. Tax free & yes, your company/government won't be adding their 2 cents but at least it is then accessible, doesn't disappear and there is plenty of room in the cash ISA allowance for the money you need and more :D

I'm pretty sure my boss (IFA) would say start saving now, but I have other things I need to save for/spend money on! The only thing that has been in the news recently is that you will need 35 years National Insurance Contributions to qualify for your full state pension :)

I am pooped at the moment, between the baby not sleeping, running around like a headless chicken, working 3 days a week & also being on a diet that restricts me to 1200 calories per day. Although the sheer amount of exercise I do (thank you endomondo app ;)) means that I can boost that and tonight I shall be having ice cream :D

More debt has been paid off, and with the council tax payment diverted to the card next month as well as the £50 payment... we will officially be debt free this time next month!!!!

In other news... Baby lilt is CRAWLING!!! Well... in her own unique, commando style fashion. But she is really getting around!! Still no teeth though & she is 10 months on Saturday!

Back to work for moi. See you soon guys!!

Ok, so I'm not sure if I should be posting this here?? Or if I'm supposed to be following the monthly challenges?

But I have just transferred my first £420 overpayment into my savings account  which leaves me with £6 odd in my account (without touching my overdraft)

yes that feels slightly scary and I do have £50 in my purse which I can use for food shopping and have a £34 cheque to pay in, which isn't sooooo bad. I really want to stick to this though so I feel like OMG!!!! I don't know why :-/ bye for now.

  • Well now.. it has been a little while since I have been on here due to the amount of work I have had to do, plus the overtime, the ebaying and the being sick but my little mind has been working overtime as well in regards what I want from this challenge, am I killing myself and what really is achievable by the end of the year...

I now have 323 days and £10500. This breaks down to £32.50 per day. Breaking it down further, excluding the months leading to the beginning of May as I cannot make re-payments since I now have to move.. I have 8 months ( May - December ) to repay what will then be ( minus basic payments made each month ) an amount of £9640 - which is a delightful amount of £1205 per month!!!

I already pay £430 per month in bills so it amounts to an EXTRA £775 per month. I think this can still be done. If I can keep selling as I have been doing and ensure my out-goings are MINISCULE as they currently are I should be on track. It just means I have to make at least £1903 to cover my out-goings ONLY.. I will need a least £200 a month to live on!!!...

Any one got any imaginative ideas..? This is why - when I move, the new rent has to be inclusive and as minimal as possible!!! But I guess beggars can't be choosers..

Right lets get some research done..

    Hello all,

Work has been really busy for the past few weeks including a lot of weekend and evening work so I've not had time to keep up MSE. Have I missed any gossip? Kat, you're thinking of travelling to Oz? My SIL went out there to nurse 8yrs ago and now has no intention of ever coming back!

Payday on Friday :) Waiting on my CC statement arriving, have paid £550 off it this month so hoping I've really dented it at last. Still looking at being debt free for June though I may have to up what I pay on the CC each month.

Did I say that Hubby cancelled Sky Sports n Movies? Saving us £32 a month and now he just watches footy on his laptop so I can actually watch TV - not that there's anything on worth watching these days!

Work have decided for the time being to pay overtime as time in lieu. Whilst the extra money would be nice, time for me is also appreciated as the overtime has really been biting into my weekends/evenings and I've given up visiting friends recently. This week though is my week off from the overtime so I'm off to bessie's tomorrow evening for a good ol' gossip and some crafting. Not seen her this year, in fact I've only seen one friend this year so far.. DOn't like feeling isolated from them all.

I must confess I've lost my way with the February challenges - either Hubby's gone shopping alone (EEK!) or I've done a random online shop without really menu planning. Still maintaining the £100 a wk budget but there's been less left over for the past few weeks to save. So hopefully now I have a week overtime-free I can myself more organised once more.
  • Its nearly home time.. I can't wait. Thinking of how I can eBay the evening away. His Missus - I have been reading all sorts of things about Oz. I just want to get there now and see what I think. I can't wait to hear about your CC money as well. it would be very cool if you are able to keep within your budget and get rid of that debt by June.

Good for Hubby and yes I will have to agree, there ain't much on to watch..

Okay - about to fall asleep here,,,Z Z zz z zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • NSK - how did your ebaying session go? And how has it all been recently - did you sell your tea-set?

I'm busy studying for my exam - my early pre-tests indicate that I'm on target to pass...jeez I hope I do!!! I'm occasionally distracted by ebaying, but only ever seem to sell a couple of items a week... Once my exam is over (first week in March), I shall be ebaying off loads of things :) And I meet even work out exactly how much debt I'll pay off in 2013 :)

Have you had a chance to try out swagbucks yet? Every little helps - I cash in my swagbucks for amazon vouchers :)
