    Morning all,

Apologies for not posting sooner - you know what my life is like, although work has been quieter this week. I have been reading though

    First:

Congrats to Moggins on her new job and all the other exciting things going on in her life
    Big big hugs to smokeybabe
Pink-winged - I got my recycling bins from Wilkinsons - they were £3.99 each, are black with a clear plastic front/flap that you open and put your recycling in. Perfect.

Unfortunately I bring bad news - it looks like OH and I are splitting up for good. He told me he doesnt love me anymore the other night, I suggested going on a break to figure out what we both really want. Fortunately I have a place to crash down here now, so that's one less problem. I'm :(:(.

Anyway, going to start my spring cleaning this weekend (I know, why am I spring cleaning a flat that I will probably move out of soon - because I want to, it keeps me occupied). Other than that, been eating lots of lovely homecooked meals - I figured out the trick now. Make a thorough meal plan (actually following recipes) with all the ingredients for each meal on it. Highlight the ones you dont have, put them onto your shopping list. Then go to the supermarket and you will only end up with items on your list in your trolley!! :j That's what worked for me anyway.

I hope you all have an absolutely fantastic Easter weekend/Good Friday, whatever you're doing.

Oh, and BargainRzl - here is that bacon and sweetcorn chowder recipe you were after :)! Sorry for the wait. It's really really good.

Bacon and Sweetcorn Chowder, taken from 'The Busy Cooks Cookbook' by Pamela Westland

    Serves 4

    Ingredients

-100g streaky bacon rashers, rinded and diced
    -50g butter
-1 medium onion, peeled and sliced
-1 medium leek, peeled and sliced
    -2 celery sticks, sliced
-2 medium carrots, peeled and thinly sliced
    -300ml chicken stock
    -225g potatoes, peeled and diced
    -1 x 425g can sweetcorn kernels, drained
    -450ml milk
    -Salt and pepper
    -Pinch of cayenne pepper
    -6 tblspn double cream
-1 tblspn chopped fresh parsley, to garnish

    Method
    1. Fry the bacon in half the butter over moderate heat for 2-3 minutes
    2. Add the onion, leek, celery and carrot, stir well and cook for 4 minutes
    3. Pour on the stock, bring to the boil and add the potatoes. Return the stock to the boil, cover the pan and simmer for 20 minutes
    4. Add the sweetcorn and milk and bring to simmering point. Simmer for 3 minutes and add salt, pepper and cayenne
    5. Stir in the cream and allow just to heat through, then stir in the remaining butter. Garnish with the parsley and serve very hot
    6. Serve with plenty of hot, crusty rolls

NB: I didn't have any celery, so I used a couple of bell peppers instead. I used paprika instead of cayenne pepper as well, both worked out fine.

    Morning All:hello:

    Hugs to everyone, espeically Smokeybabe:grouphug:

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately, this week Spud saw fit to give us both his lovely cold & it's been a real 5 day affair for both of us, typically hubby had this week booked off anyway but we haven't done any of the things we planned, including 2 private jobs worth over £100 for him, because we have been ill. Grrrr.......for how long will we be getting everything that's going aroung the playgroup.....are our immune systems good for nothing? Fortunately both private jobs can be delayed & we are hoping to do one on Sunday which will mean me missing the Easter sunday service at church but it's that or lose the job, and any future work we might get out of it. The other is an ongoing job so that doesn't matter so much, a weeks delay won't be a problem.

Anyway, today I feel a little better, I have cleaned the kitchen (3 days of debris left it looking like a bombsite!:o), put the washing on & got one load hung out already, got the bread maker on, got a (reduced price) joint of beef roasting for Monday's picnic & am on here, so things are gettign better. Later we are going to borrow our neighbours jet-washer to blast clean the freecycle patio set we got last weekend:T Oh no, hubbys just wandered in saying he thinks the cold has gone down on his chest......

I have, however, put my time to good use this week, I have completely re-jigged the household budget, no more money availabel but I have shifted thigns aroudn so hopefully it wil be a bit easier to stick too now.

    Have a good day everyone:wave:

    Good morning all,

well, I would wait until I'm off on holiday to come down with some bug, wouldn't I? So starting the day with a sore throat and mouth, and feeling a bit queasy - hope it doesn't come to anything more than that!

Oh well, things still moving on. WM to go on this morning, and going to clean the bathrooms I think. (or maybe I'll just stay here with a cuppa for the morning - we'll see) :p
Twink/squishy, when does ds/dh get home? I bet all three of you can't wait to see him.

Pink - twinks ds1 is not my other half, I'm attached to ds2 :) We're all looking forward to seeing him though! He should be home soon :D

Smoky - don't worry about ranting: you need someone to talk to and we're all here for you! *hugs*

*hugs* to all, take or leave as you please :D

:hello: Goooood Morning Fellow OS’ers :D:D:D

Today is *my* day :D The boys are away with their Dad for the Easter Holidays so I have a couple of days free to do with as I wish/need/want. :T

Yesterday I invested in one of those soft muffin trays – the really deep ones, so anything I put in there should come out the size of the shop bought ones. Being so deep, I need to play around with amounts and timings, so I’ll be experimenting with muffins first and then I want to make some meatloaf “muffins” for the freezer. Never used those soft baking trays before, so it really will be trial and error ;) Also, going to make a Simnel Cake to gift to friends.

Also on the agenda for today will be the dragging out of my Pamper Basket for some time of pure indulgence. The past few weeks have been particularly challenging, one way or another and there’s no point fighting traffic and frayed tempers on the roads with the mad rush by those who see Easter w/end + sunshine as a signal to get out and about and flame anyone who might not be going the speed *they* want! I don’t do traffic jams ;) The beaches were very busy yesterday so today will no doubt be manic!

Tomorrow I will need to hit the road, because I’m off to spend time with my dear friends for a couple of days of quality time. It isn’t the time away I’d hoped to have had around this date, or the people I had planned to spend it with, but at least it’s a couple of days away – like they say, a change is as good as a rest.

Didn’t manage to get d12yo’s clothes yesterday, so that has now been postponed until next Tuesday.

For those who are going through challenging times ((hugs))
Many Happy Returns to those celebrating their birthday today

Hope you’ve all got your Hot Cross Buns cooked up for today (don’t forget to make a wish!)

Enjoy a moneysaving Good Friday :D
