Single DFW

  • Hi everyone, please can I join too??

I am very newly single (2 days) have decided that my debts are my priority for at least the next 6 months.

I accumulated about £10k of debts when I was single a few years back. Most of it was a new car (the old one died), a new horse (the old one died) and a dog for my daughter. These things made me happy at the time and I wouldn't be without but .... but the debt needs to go!

I split from a partner I lived with a year ago. While he lived with me I was paying off debts at a great speed, then when he left I ended up only being able to pay off the minimum amounts. Last February I got back with my first proper boyfriend from 13 years ago and really wanted to make it work. It was a long distance relationship and cost a fortune in train tickets (£1400 in 8 months!). I'm now £500 more in debt than when we met. So although I feel heart broken, I'm excited to watch the debts start going down!

This thread is so helpful .. so good to know that other people are in the same boat.

  • Welcome to the thread FattyBettyBoo, sorry to hear you're newly single, but we are here to help you being S.A.D!

As an update to my situation, I now have £20 amazon vouchers available, and £20 of Boots vouchers in the pot for Christmas shopping - and all from the last few weeks!

I think after Christmas I might start saving up for an iPad if they sell them on amazon...:rotfl:

  • Seems to be a theme here. I too am single and in debt (thanks to EX and my stupidity) again, all in my name.

    Never again!

Lesson learned. Happy to be single. (sometimes feels like i'm a leper in social cirles but I don't care and I'm now in control!).
Going to take years to clear, but enjoying life on the way. My house, my rules, my cooking (love cooking, especially when I can make a fabulous meal on a budget or from cupboard and fridge scraps), I can have an early night if I want, friends I want, lifestyle I want. :D

'Tis hard to start with, gets easier as time goes on. You need to know what to do with your debt and start to deal with it instead of playing the blame game. Energies need to be fed into what is constructive. And calming.
