Morning All... How are we doing? 10 days smoke free. I'll be honest, I want to hit someone right now!
Off to spinning for the first time ever tonight, I've got a feeling it's going to be a good punishment for smoking all these years.

    1/3 through the month!

I'm not intentionally taking part in 'Stoptober' but I have not had a cigarette since Saturday (6th Oct), so now at the end of day 4. Can't say it's easy but I feel more determined than ever to achieve this. I used to smoke 10-15 a day for the last 7 years and have attempted to quit before but I really feel this time is for good. I've even been out to the pub and watched friends and relatives smoke around me and not been tempted!

Good luck and well done everyone. I guess im joining you as I quit last week. Really terrible habit of quitting on Monday morning and by Wednesday smoking 20 a day until the weekend. I feel much more certain now.

I am currently reading The Millionaire Next Door and there was one paragraph that held my interest. They were talking about a family of smokers and how much they would have saved if they had saved the money they smoked. Yes it was quite a bit. But then they said that had they invested that money in the tobacco companies they could be millionaires by now.

All of a sudden I felt such a mug! Here I am paying a fortune to kill myself slowly and painfully and making others millionaires. I finished the pack and havent smoked since. Everytime I really really want to I put £8 in my ISA and remind myself about that paragraph.

Fingers crossed this is it for me and everyone here.
  • Evening all, day 11 and still hanging in there! Had my day off today and have really missed it to be honest. DH has gone out now for a smoke but I know he will stink when he comes in and cough in the morning.

I do feel different now, calmer I think, which goes along with the guidelines that we don't use nicotine to deal with stress, its the nicotine that causes the stress as we crave for the next dose of it and go into slightly panic mode. (Sorry sound like a preacher). But I kind of get it now.

Anyway, will have to join a diet thread soon as I keep 'borrowing' the kids sweets :o
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Don't worry Penelope, I've already turned into the preaching ex-smoker after just 5 days! I've noticed a really enhanced sense of smell especially with regards to cigarettes. I can smell somebody smoking from across the street and I can smell that stale smell of a smoker, can't believe I used to go around smelling like that and didn't realise. But I've been passing on my 'words of wisdom' to smoking friends and relatives already. Definitely cannot go back now!

I've noticed increased sense of smell and taste. Just struggling with the stress head bit-even my work mates keep saying-go and have a fag, you're proper on one today!!! So if i can address that (without going back to cigs) I'll be very happy-open to suggestions?? TIA
