    Hi all

I have a rather daft little Question. I have problem operating my smart phone with gloves on, it seems Smart phones and gloves do not mix too well. Does anyone else have this problem or know a solution.

only thing i can think of is fingerless gloves, or perhaps those mittens where the top flips back over and buttons in place so you can have covered or uncovered fingertips

I wonder if you kind people could possible help.

Last winter i fleece lined my curtains everywhere and put door curtains also lined on my front and back doors.
It ended up being quite mild in our area over the winter so i am unsure as to if we got any benefit from it as we also had the loft insulated.

We have recently moved to a new area and my windows all have roller blinds which are in good working order.
We have curtains on most windows too but the windows are recessed and the curtain poles are not, if you know what i mean. The curtains all stop just after the window ledges.

Would there be any benefit to fleece lining my curtains this year as they are
    1) approx 20 inches out from the windows themselves,
    2) very short so would my heating be going to the window and heading outside?

Rented accommodation so we can't change placement of curtain poles and longer curtains are out of the budget too for at least another year or so.

    thanks in advance

You can get telescopic curtain poles, like a shower curtain rod which you could put up with some light coloured fleeces. They could be close to the windows :)

    Fingerless gloves.

They still keep your hands much warmer than no gloves, and you can use your phone :)

I've seen gloves in Wilkos so you can use your phone without taking your gloves off. They weren't that expensive - £3- don't know how good they are though. linky

Yes I've seen the smartphone gloves too. There was some on a marketstall near us so I think they should be widely available. Try eB@y or am@zon.

I hope you get things sorted soon Nicki. Nothing worse than being cold. Has your daughter got a thermal vest? They really help too. Hope you get the Am$z$n refund soon.

Trying to figure out why DD is so cold when she wakes up in the morning. She has a fleece undersheet, a 4.5tog quilt with a cellular blanket & wool blanket over it (any more and she ends up soaking wet with sweat, not good for a tween when she's got to go to school), warm full length PJs, and fluffy socks on. Her room has a black-out blind, then fleece lined curtains, a radiator turned to max and I shut her bedroom door. Yet every morning she gets up, and climbs into my bed to warm up as I'm the opposite usually! :rotfl: Only thing I can think of is the chill from the hall must go up into her room :(

does she have night sweats? if so she may be cooling down from them about the time she wakes up and if the room is cool and she's damp that will really make her feel cold, or if she has her arms out from beneath the covers or maybe her legs that could do it, whenever i get up for the loo in the few hours before i get up no matter how short the trip it seems to take ages for my arms to warm up again despite crawling back into warm sheets/duvet

I tried with a 13.5 tog and she spent the entire night sweating so much I could smell her from the door way  That was not pleasant, and meant she had to have a bath before school as we don't have a shower.

I'd 2nd investigating the night sweats - I suffer from these (down to meds I'm currently taking) and can say it's awful :(

I do find it helps to layer the bed - currently have on a 4.5 tog duvet and 2 blankets - as I can fling off the extra stuff but it only works to a certain degree.

I have been getting up several times during the night to change my pj top as it's soaking :( - and I'm always cold when I get up - probably down to lying in damp clothes for goodness knows how long before I actually wake up.

If your DD is having anything similar & not waking up / putting dry things on, then she will be getting really chilled down for the rest of the night.

From my own experiences, for the last week, I've been changing from my thick winter pjs (that I put on after my bath for sitting around the house) into lightweight summer ones when I've gone to bed and have also gone back to a normal sheet rather than the flannalette ones.

It is making a bit of a difference as I'm obviously not getting too hot as often and have only had to get up & change once during the night for the past couple of nights.

Hope you can find a solution.

blue tak? right now i'm using blue tak to help hold the toilet seat in the proper position til i can get it fixed (definitely NOT reusing that stuff!!!) it's amazing what you can use blue tak for :rotfl:

good plan but mine melted last yr! I use thick cardboard from sturdy boxes about an inch or 2 thick, with silver foil stuck on shiny side out, 2 panels for a large radiator and so far its been just the right width to stay in place. hth
