Thanks for the weather updates. When I think of prepare for winter I always think of snow/ice but growing webbed feet seems to be a better plan!
Going to make some onion (or tomato) soup today and look over the stuff still to do on my winter prep list.Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I've ordered some yak-trax type things from Mr A to come with my groceries tonight. At only £7 a pair (one size) I'm hoping they'll be one of those "bought but not needed" items
Trying to figure out why DD is so cold when she wakes up in the morning. She has a fleece undersheet, a 4.5tog quilt with a cellular blanket & wool blanket over it (any more and she ends up soaking wet with sweat, not good for a tween when she's got to go to school), warm full length PJs, and fluffy socks on. Her room has a black-out blind, then fleece lined curtains, a radiator turned to max and I shut her bedroom door. Yet every morning she gets up, and climbs into my bed to warm up as I'm the opposite usually! :rotfl: Only thing I can think of is the chill from the hall must go up into her roomCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
Does she kick her covers off Nicki? How old is she? My DD is 2 and still often ends up without covers, no matter how i try to keep her tucked in. On chillier nights she has worn a fleece onesie over her pj's which really helped. She also has a big gro-bag type thing, but end up like Maggie Simpson tripping over her feet all the timeBossymoo

Quick update, the storm is still off the west coast of Scotland but may well move further south and hit Northern Uk and the Midlands. It is still developing as its expected to hit around the weekend..give or take a day or so.
It was cold here last night, down to 4 degrees and very damp and foggy this morning. It's now back up to 24 degrees in the sun and cloud we keep getting. Just hoping the bad weather from Italy doesn't come this way.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

Cold air doesn't rise, it sinks. What's the loft insulation like above her room? Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

does she have night sweats? if so she may be cooling down from them about the time she wakes up and if the room is cool and she's damp that will really make her feel cold, or if she has her arms out from beneath the covers or maybe her legs that could do it, whenever i get up for the loo in the few hours before i get up no matter how short the trip it seems to take ages for my arms to warm up again despite crawling back into warm sheets/duvet0 -

She does have a tendancy to move all the covers to one side of the bed (its against the wall) rather than kick them off, but has been known to wake up screaming as she's gotten wrapped up in them and can't get out :rotfl::o I've tried tucking her in but that doesn't always work. She's a very restless sleeper but sleeps so deeply I often have to check she's still breathing when I go to bed or if I get up in the night!
She's nearly 12, and I offered to buy her a onesie but she said no. Might suggest one of her aunties on her dads side gets her one for Xmas. They both have them so she can join their little clubCold air doesn't rise, it sinks. What's the loft insulation like above her room?
I was thinking about the fact our hall/stairs/tiny landing gets noticeably colder, the temperature can drop quite fast so I was wondering whether that was seeping into her room over the night so she can't keep warm.
I'm not sure what the insulation is like above her room. I've only been in my loft once in the 8 years I've been here and that was only to put my head through to see where the stoptap was. We have had extra insulation put in as part of a warmhomes thing a few years back so in theory it should be fine. I've got my dads tall stepladders so checking the loft is being added to the list of things to do. I must also get one of those big LED torches...I feel a trip to Asda tomorrow morningConfuzzled wrote: »does she have night sweats? if so she may be cooling down from them about the time she wakes up and if the room is cool and she's damp that will really make her feel cold, or if she has her arms out from beneath the covers or maybe her legs that could do it, whenever i get up for the loo in the few hours before i get up no matter how short the trip it seems to take ages for my arms to warm up again despite crawling back into warm sheets/duvet
Thats a possibility. I'll look into that later when she doesn't need the laptop for her homework. *writes sticky note to remember*Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

What about a sleeping bag? You can get soft fleecy ones, so not meaning necessarily the full blown campling ones, lol! I use these on my two who wriggle loads as they then wriggle inside the sleeping bag but it all stays self contained so the covers tend to stay put, lol.. You could even make a quick, cheap one if you have an excess of cheap blankets as it just needs to be something similar to a sack that they wriggle in, but the covers stay put on top of the sack!April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
