Preparing for winter IV

I had the flat kitchen roof renewed yesterday, some broken tiles on the main roof replaced (although the roofer said ideally it needs a new roof. This is a 1930s terrace so I wouldn't be surprised!) and the disused chimney capped & repointed. :jThey cleaned out the main gutters then fixed the flat roof gutter as well apparently but I'm still not happy with it. Until it rained last night I didn't realise its still not draining. Had a look today and I know what needs doing and it'll take me 2 minutes to fix so I'll do it myself
I've got my dad to drop off his step ladders (about 2m tall) so I can get on with the decorating from this week, which includes putting curtain rails up above the front/back doors to hang my door curtains onI'm looking forward to a toasty winter this year :j

I've read posts where people put the pillows in a bin liner - not entirely sure why though
i believe the point of putting the pillows in a bin liner is to keep the soot off them, pull them out of the chimney, shake it off the bag and then you can store it away without it making a mess
don't forget to tie a bit of yarn or something to dangle down if you ever use the fire, you don't want to start one and not remembered to pull the pillow out beforehand!0 -
My daughters got an unused fireplace in her bedroom and I just stuffed old blankets up it to keep the draught out.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

They cleaned out the main gutters
You've reminded me about my gutters- there's usually a handyman guy comes around in October time and does the house & garage ones for around £20.
Haven't seen him this year- I might well have missed him as I was in hospital for a largish part of October ........ mmmmm pants!
They do need done as well as there's a lovely grass growing in the corner gutter where it meets with next door:rotfl:
Might have to get the window cleaner to do it - but they charge a lot more (and don't do the garage ones).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Becky 2 i leave my heating on permanently. I live in a concrete house though and if you let the concrete get cold it literally takes days to heat back up even at 30 degrees! I'm not sure how effective my thermostat is though as it is behind the living room door and set to 24 degrees but the room thermometer reads a nice conistent 21.0

okay.....this is an early warning about UK weather around the weekend.
My friend the storm chaser has just sent me some info and I thought I would warn you. There looks to be a really bad storm developing that may well hit Ireland, Scotland and the North of England around the weekend. I have the projected weather map as to how it will probably look by Friday but I can't remember the link to upload it to so that it can be put on here.....can anyone remind me what to upload it to so I can put it on this thread? Thanks..“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -

Is it an image?
If so, you need to upload it to Photobucket (or similar pic hosting site) and then do a link to it (choose the icon that looks like an envelope with stamp on! from the post reply box). HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Latest severe weather tracking update.
Low pressure expected to hit the NW of England, Ireland and Scotland this coming weekend has deepened on the latest GFS 12z.
Winds gust to 80mph possibly 90mph on latest output. Current output suggests very strong winds for much of Northern England along with heavy rain. We will continue to track this winter storm, lets hope the track changes!“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
