The curtains all stop just after the window ledges.
Would there be any benefit to fleece lining my curtains this year as they are
1) approx 20 inches out from the windows themselves,
2) very short so would my heating be going to the window and heading outside?Hi all
I have a rather daft little Question. I have problem operating my smart phone with gloves on, it seems Smart phones and gloves do not mix too well. Does anyone else have this problem or know a solution.2025 Fashion on the ration

I do find it helps to layer the bed - currently have on a 4.5 tog duvet and 2 blankets - as I can fling off the extra stuff but it only works to a certain degree.
I have been getting up several times during the night to change my pj top as it's soaking- and I'm always cold when I get up - probably down to lying in damp clothes for goodness knows how long before I actually wake up.
Hope you can find a solution.
I get night sweats due to my thyroid medication...they are horrible. I find it wakes me up as I am feeling too hot...it must be the hot surge! I layer the bedclothes but my solution is throwing them off till I cool off then pulling just some of them back over me.At the moment I have a silk top sheet on, if I wake up to hot I pull a cool bit of it over me which cools me off quicker:j
My husband complains that in my sleep I get too hot and push all the covers onto him, then when I get cold I cuddle up to him to get warm again lol.....well, what are husbands for other than that? lol:D
But he says he can sympathise with me having the hot sweats since he wakes up lathered in sweat when I have thrown all the covers on top of him.......:rotfl:
Part two of the storm chasers forecast for Sat/Sun/Mon :
Could be plenty of fresh snow about tomorrow and for the rest of the weekend across Scotland, North West Scotland in particular.

Re radiator foil: if you stick it to cardboard, you could get some of those plastic bindings for paperwork. Slot the card in but leave an inch or two of the binding sticking out, one either side and it will just rest on your radiator brackets. Hope that makes sense!

I found THIS on Facebook - please 'like' the page to spread the word.
As part of your winter preps... Would you consider making up a rucksack for a homeless person?
Scour the charity shops for:
A rucksack
blanket/sleeping bag
jumper
hat, scarf, gloves
socks
flask (fill with warm soup/drink)
some extra food (i'm going to put in some xmassy bits and chocolate)
I've never really given it more than a passing thought but when I think now about how cold I get walking to collect the kids from school, it makes me cringe to think that some people don't get the chance to go home and warm up, let alone have a nice hot dinner or warming soup
Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help by either making a rucksack up or 'like'ing the FB page :A
That's a really good idea. I may quote your post over on the declutter thread too as even a spare jumper/pair of gloves/scarf/hat could be helpful. I think some Sally Army charity shops operate a mini distribution centre for homeless people too.

i've come up with a brilliant way to save money on winter heating.... Hotflashes!
yes, you too can be your own furnace with just a slight hormonal imbalance! who needs a heavy, stationary sauna when you have your own portable version? All this and it's FREE bonus with age and wrinkles!
omg last night i had my first, honest-to-goodness-no-way-i-can-deny-it-any-longer hotflash wow i got so hot and sweaty i felt ill! my poor daughter who never feels the cold much was complaining about the cold and i was stripping off layers.
she decided to help out by placing her icicle like hands on the back of my neck and forehead, win win for us both i suppose but a bit drastic for cutting back on fuel bills :rotfl:
here i was thinking how well i'd been doing because i have only had the heating on twice (and turned it back off again cuz i felt ill from the heat) when really i just think i've been running a bit hotter than normal all month!
on the yay side i've had loads more cuddles on the sofa under the blanket with my daughter. she loves the heating pad i got from lidl and has been happy with that for the most part. she knows she doesn't get any sympathy from me about cold unless she's well layered, has he slipper boots and a blanket round her and she is still cold though. mind you it's hard to be sympathetic when you're having hotflashes but i'm trying!
i'm curious, is anyone else having issues with more beasties than usual coming in for the winter? the spider and bug concentration in my house this year has been epic and i had a mouse too! i live upstairs so it must have at least been a bit of a challenge to get up here as mice don't climb as well as rats do. in my 3+ years here this is our first, hopefully the last as i got the beastie the other night.
i'm thinking that with such a poor harvest of both wild and cultivated plants this year due to the poor summer we may all be getting more of them trying to share our homes. i can just about live with the spiders and bugs but rodents and ants are too destructive to allow to get a foothold...
i hope all of you are doing well, keeping warm and quietly battening down the hatches0 -

I can sympathise with the hot sweats AND your daughter feeling cold.....I had a full year of the hot sweats, with pounding heart and feeling like I was filling up with hot water. I used to wake up twenty or thirty times a night like it. Nothing stopped them , I just learned to cope. I tried everything from soya (allergic) to Black cohosh which brought back my monthly's after two years without.
Then I had a year freezing cold when my thyroid went iffy.....I was frozen even with layers on, the central heating, log fire and a blanket cuddling up to my hubby lol . I got the meds sorted and suddenly felt warm again, it was lovely!
I went to see the endo two weeks ago and he has kept them at the same dose as he wants me ''running on the hot side'' all winter so I don't suffer like last year...so I am one happy patient!
It's a nightmare finding a happy medium, particularly since you can go out here in the winter and either find a blazing fire on in the bar or no heating at all. Dressing in layers is the only way to go at the moment as its going from 6 at night to 24 in the daytime, but about 14 in the shade or in the wind.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
I wondered if more beasties are around and trying to get inside because the weather is going to be bad. We still have mosquitoes biting everyone here which is amazing for November. They are usually long gone by now.
We use the sonic repellers in the house to keep things out...which work well with the exception of the normal fly which doesn't seem bothered by it. We used it in the old house to keep out the snakes (including vipers) scorpions and tree rats (like a squirrel but they eat fruit) which would try to move into the house before the winter rains started.
The village where I used to live, had a communal group of cats to keep the beasties away....we all took turns in feeding them and buying medicine. There were 22 of them in a communal group. When they had kittens (always in demand as hunters by people who took them) they used to lie in a circle facing outwards to keep the snakes away from the babies which were in the middle of them in a pile of leaves. They also fed each other's kittens and went out hunting for each other. When I left they asked me not to take any with me as they were running short of cats that year LOL. So I feed three cats that come to my door for scraps...but they all have owners in the village. One sits on our door mat all night outside keeping guard, that one won't eat, it just comes for a cuddle LOL“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
For nearly everyday this week I have been out in the front garden cleared up with a rake the leaves that are coming down of the cherry tree. Thankfully, the last few are up there. I was out at 9am after walking the dog clearing another great load of them up.
I washed the net curtains in the third bedroom. I don't normally have nets up at the windows but this bedroom is sort of overlooked and I use it as a kind of dressing room. Anyway, popped in on a quick wash and hung them straight back up and they look fab.
Forecast is for frost tonight though. It will be a white out tomorrow morning.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
