A couple of years ago our heating broke in the winter and I don't think I have ever been so cold at night. It was during the snow, 2010 I think. I went to bed with two duvets, a furry blanket and my snuggie on over my pyjamas and a hoodie and I was still shivering.
The heating is fixed now and we have double glazing and we had insulation put in our attic this year so I think we will be okay if there is snow again.:p I still have a hot water bottle and lots of hot drinks if I come in from walking my dogs and I feel cold.Cosied up on the sofa with the log fire burning, candles and some aromatherapy oil in the burner. It's so cosy
That sounds really nice.:)0 -
Had a night of strong winds and torrential rain. It stopped for a couple of hours this morning but its just started raining again. But at least its not cold it was 19 degrees in town today. Forecast for one more day then hopefully it will clear again.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. My tubular heater arrived from eb@y which I intend to use outside in the brick shed where the WM is - hopefully that will prevent burst pipes this year... Really don't want a repeat of last year and the year before.
Other than that, I have been really slack with winter preps. Got a day off tomorrow so will make sure I do a few bits then.0 -
Think the pets are just about sorted now:
Cats:
- Litter delivered yesterday - 2 x 15L bags of the new (fantastic, long lasting & no tracking stuff;)) which should last around 2 months - will re-order once I start the 1st bag all winter so plenty in stock. Also have 30L (horrid clumping stuff) stuck away in a bin in the garage (but it would last around a month in an emergency)
- Dry food - 10kg new sack of RC which I'll need to start probably beginning of December. Has been lasting 5 months but they seem to have gone through this one a bit quicker so say 4 to be on the safe side = will last to end March min so OK on that one. Have around 3kg of their other dry but they do seem to be eating slightly less of this just now - 4kg usually lasts them 6 months so this should last OK for the winter
- Wet food - lots of this (but they won't eat a lot of it!) - trying new foods just now and, fingers crossed, have found an affordable one they will both eat:eek::)
- Dry food - new 15kg sack of food still to be opened (just about finished last sack). Will last around 50 days so will order another sack in around a months' time (don't want to do just now as I have changed her food and want to make absolutely sure this one does suit her before ordering more)
- Supplements - ordered Profibre yesterday. Old tub will last around another month & full one lasts 100 days so fine for that.
- Wet food - have new food to try. Will order more if it doesn't upset her tum! Tub should last 4 days & 12 in a box so would probably get a couple of boxes to see us through.

Quick update between thunderstorms...we had a belter earlier today, torrential rain, lightning and thunder at the same time then hail“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. Latest update from my friend the weather man (for the UK)
Flash warning of severe weather
Warning type: Heavy rain, severe gales, and flooding.
This is an early weather warning for the risk of strong to gale force winds during the next few days.
A complex series of small low pressure systems are expected to run very close to the UK during the course of Thursday and Friday.
The strongest of these winds move across the bulk of England and Wales during the course of Thursday, transferring from west to east through the day. During the evening, a secondary low pressure system is expected to run close to the NW of Scotland, and with it the highest of the winds transfer to here during the night.
And then on Friday morning, current modelling takes a shortwave feature across SW England, swinging NE up towards Yorkshire by evening. Winds during these three events are likely to reach between 50-60mph, with winds of up to 70mph possible along windward coasts and across higher elevations.
This is likely to lead to some disruption to transport, particularly to high-sided vehicles. Further to this, some particularly high rainfall totals are expected across western areas during the next few days, and with this falling on to already saturated ground, the possibility of localised flooding is high

We have got horrendous storms which are affecting my internet now. Had enough of the torrential rain, please can we have the sun back?“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come.
