I had a feeling that Kittie mentioned Piers Corbyn saying there would be storms around the 20th which seems to have come right!!

Yes, Kittie did mention that...I seem to remember he took in the dates from 20th to 22nd as particularly bad for the UK.

This morning was horrendous rain & wind here in the SW - blue skies and sunshine now though. Unfortunately, we're forecast even worse for tomorrow pm and on top of the rain and flooding we had this morning, and the 70mph winds we're forecast, things could get interesting!
After 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j

And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!

I'm sure the recommendation is to have one more litter tray than you have cats. We have three trays for four cats - one in each bathroom and one by the back door - the three girls are happy to use them but my old boy really hates it if he can't go outside. The cat flap he was used to is sealed shut now as DD won't let the youngsters out unattended, hence the tray by the door, but he still howls to have the door opened instead.

I hate that he can't get himself in and out, he's not always good at coming in when called if he's out hunting and I don't want to risk him being shut out at night when it's cold, though he can shelter in the garage and the barn. The microchip-activated flaps seem the only solution and it's not an affordable option just now.

Former Cats Protection lady here :) Yes, the recommendation is one tray per cat plus one. I have two cats and one tray but increase this to two trays if they're being kept in and I'm away from home.

Re catflaps - you can get flaps which operate with a magnet on the cat's collar and I believe these are cheaper than the microchip kind. It might be worth looking into :)

ETA: PM me if you'd like instructions training your cat to come in when called. This from the lady whose Willie Wonka is currently breaking his curfew! But, seriously, it's easy to do and my cats are usually in before or at the time I want them in.

Thinking about going away for Christmas ourselves since my OH suggested it this morning....and he named several of my favourite places on the mainland. Going to try and get a long range forecast for the places as one of them is rather near to a Greek ski resort. We took the wrong turning one year and got totally lost....next thing we were surrounded by deep snow and ski lifts and it looked just like Switzerland LOL

cheers kittie, i was hoping it wouldn't be too cold this year as we have to travel from one coast of scotland to the next for christmas and whenver it's really cold the points freeze up on the rails and an already annoying taxi/train/train/ferry/taxi trip that takes 5 hours winds up taking 8+ (you'd think we were going to the other side of the world it's only about 100 miles!) so i'm feeling a lot more confident about it being reasonable.

still planning to take some fleece blankets, stick on heat pads (for back and knees), deep heat rub etc just in case but as long as it isn't bitterly cold we should be ok, one less thing to worry about for the time being, mind you i'm not buying my tickets yet, just in case :rotfl:
