Preparing for winter IV

won`t be long before us peasants revolt. Cameroon has been bragging that the river by his home has been dredged several times. One law for the toffs and one law for us. I am fuming :mad::mad:
Oh boy.... that man ought to know when to keep his gob shut.
Thanks for the heads up Kittie. I don't know how much we can all take of this wet weather. I am very lucky that it would take much more than this for us to flood but I feel so awful for those who have been badly affectedWe are only about 20 mins drive from some of the places we have seen on the news which are under water

Thank you:TKittie
I have enough food/stores to sink a ship. Alternative heating for one room-which is fine if we close the doors.
BBQ outside if absolutely necessary-although I could live on salad for months, DH would start to talk rabbits though! Torch & candles & matches were I can get hold of them in the dark.
Everything is battened down (well still is from last time) All my washing has dried in the sun & wind this morning, washing basket now empty. Car full of fuel.
Don't need to go anywhere tomorrow or Monday, but am back to work on Tuesday-so will have to see what driving is going to be like. On Tuesday's I only go about 8 miles to work, the rest of the week I work somewhere else and drive a lot further on very un-sheltered coastal roads.
Although maybe un-sheltered and treeless is good???
By way I am on the tip of the red zone here! Last time the wind topped 100mph not far from me.
It's starting to get dull & windy now. HM lasagne already made to go in oven later.
Take care everybody.

well unsheltered will be difficult to drive in but should hopefully be clearer of debris than those that less open, however with coastal roads and bridges etc in those kinds of winds the roads or bridges might get shut down, i know they quite often have to close bridges up my way (Fife) as we tend to get a lot of wild wind up this way
i'm in the red zone too, think i'll be sleeping with my ear plugs in again soonish, the wind whips around something fierce on my side of the flat and the bedrooms are under the eaves so it's really quite loud even when it's only 30-40mph (and i say only because it's so very windy here a lot of the time) should be another super loud night or three with the winds up that high again, might go sleep in my daughters room
she has to contend with the drunks (we're on the high street and her room faces the road) however really nasty weather has a wonderful cleansing effect concerning people of any sort loitering/brawling/singing/screaming on the streets :rotfl:0 -
I live on Anglesey in North Wales, of the 2 bridges to get onto the island, one often shuts to high sided vehicles. About 2 weeks ago, a HGV decided to chance getting across, probably because he was loaded, heavier and does it all the time even when the restrictions are up, and managed to nearly get over the bridge before the wagon tipped over (on side not over bridge!!).
Subsequently as it was too windy to recover for about 18 hours the whole bridge was completely closed.
HGV's were stopped going over the other old suspension bridge, subsequently 100's of wagons were backed up either side of the bridge en-route from Dublin-via the port of Holyhead and visa versa.
Ordinary folk took hours to get on & off the island.
Very luckily I work on the island so didn't get trapped.
My 87 year old dad says the island will break away in these winds and float off into the Irish Sea!!!
Wind has really got up here now, going to put the heating on, and my PJ's!:j0
