Preparing for winter IV

I am expecting force 8 or 9 winds this weekend. I am going to seal myself in for the duration. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Thanks for the weather warning Kittie, it's a bit windy at the moment but we're in East midlands so won't get the wind as bad as most places will but it sounds bad as it's roaring down the chimneys! We made a large loaf of bread in the breadmaker last night but I think we'll do a smaller one tonight to pop in the freezer (after I've sliced it) just incase we have any power cuts or problems getting any. Just need to go find my torch as my 5yr old DD likes to use it in her room sometimes!. We've been putting candles on instead of the heating for the past few nights. DD goes to bed at 7 so we turn it off, put her in a onesie and nice thick socks with a hot water bottle and we sit in the living room with the door closed to keep the heat in. It's so lovely and warm so we're saving a few pounds on the gas bill. The one thing we don't have which I really need to buy is a flask. Me and OH take our tea the same and we've said we should put it in a flask in the evenings so we don't have to keep going to the kitchen and boiling it up every hour. Off to Amazon I go to find one! xx
Goals: Save £500 for emergencies, Save £200 of Amazon vouchers for Xmas, fix my holey clothes!

Just wondering if it's time for someone to start a "Preparing for Winter V" yet?
I need to start building up a supply of wood for the old log burner. Especially if Russia starts thinking of playing silly games with the gas supply...0 -
Looks like we could have a cold blast heading our way over the next couple of weeks, so cover up your tender plants, seedlings and fruit trees

Not so much preparing for winter, but we prepare all year round whenever opportunity presents itself be it making extra jam to store, finding a warm coat or good pair of boots or a warm blanket in a summer sale or aquiring wood to split and store until we need to use it. Preparing is a way of life now and we always have a weather eye out for things to put into store for a snowy day ( big brother of a rainy day!). It's only common sense isn't it?0

I agree prepping for longer term problems is now essential. If the heating went for a winter I would cope. I have plenty of duvets and sleeping bags and thermals. Its the little things that we never consider that will be the key to serious problems like running out of toilet paper. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Is this the time to fess up that I have over 100 Toilet Rolls stashed in the storeroom, or does that make me sadder than ever?0
