  • Wind is back up again here Kittie, so I imagine you will be receiving it a bit later when it's done with west Cornwall. chickens have been soaked and blown about all day poor things and just as bed time rolled round it decided to stop raining, however, it is now blowing a hoolie again and piddling it down, can hear it roaring down the chimney like a cornish beast.

back and multiplied. I heard something fall outside but too bad to look. I just saw the news and am grateful to be warm and at home. Been raining for hours now

It seems to die down and go eerily quiet then revs up again. Does sound like the beast of Bodmin roaring out side...

  • Glad to report that we are finally wind free, still lightly raining but the beast seems to of moved away from west cornwall and the chimney beast has gone to sleep... hopefully for the night. Hoping you all fare well and don't wake to any structural damage....

very windy and wet here too.

I am after some advice about our damp bedroom - water on shelves of wardrobe. Is a dehumidifier the best option. Have tried a bowl of salt but not seemed to do much. Never had a dehumidifier before. If i get one a run it until room damp free, how often is it recommended to repeat? - daily weekly?

Any advice would be great thanks :)

I would go and get one tomorrow if possible, the type that you set to a humidity level that you want. I would set it on as soon as you get up and to run all day. Then, when you have time and opportunity, you need to investigate if you have ingress from outside

You must have sent it down to us in Kent. It is howling through the treetops here. We have a neighbours tree across our garden that has lodged in one of our trees as it has fallen. Two more trees have fallen in the village and had to be cleared, one was blocking the main road into the village.

Trust my son to choose today for a meet up with his friends. Dh has driven out to fetch him home. The buses can't get onto the village with the trees down so Dad's taxi it has to be.

Yes, it's been wet and wild all day, but it really does seem to be picking up now.

Just off to bed now..... Taking the torch with me, just in case.

Thanks kitty and pooky - the wardrobe is built in so cant see the wall behind it but i dont think there are any leaks that are visable. Will get hubby to investigate whilst he is on his hols. Will go into town in the morning and look into getting a dehumidifier though as worried it is not good for our health or house. Have asked around friends but no-one has one i can borrow for the week. Will have to spend some pennies i reckon

If you have a charity shop that does furniture and electrical goods they sometimes have them second hand, or check e-bay for a quick local auction.

We have a fitted wardrobe that is on an outside wall and it's always damp. I make sure there are not too many clothes in to ensure good air flow and leave the doors open as often as possible.

I use the pound shop disposable crystal damp traps, needs about 4 a year. Flippin stupid place to put a wardrobe, but it came with the house so what can you do?
  • wind is howling around the streets here in the medway and the rain is really lashing down.I am just off to bed and have put the CH on for an hour as I'm really feeling chilly. As my late Mum used to say 'pity the poor sailors afloat tonight'
