Calmer here now, not sure how long for though.

Earlier a friend walked from her car to the door with an Xmas present in her hand, the paper was so wet by the time she got in that it tore!

Made more soup in my new soup maker for her to warm up, and to use some bendy veg.

Having a few bits & bobs buffet for tea, daughters boyfriend has arrived to give her some sympathy-has had antibiotics for tonsillitis today.
I'm sure she'll be able to eat some cheeses and pate's though!

Christmas lights been on most of the afternoon, as it was dark early, so all cosy, warm and Christmassy in the house.

I feel for all emergency services, and people working to restore the power in places with no electricity.:)

I have been out done some shopping so now have my meals planned for the next week or two. So only milk top ups required.

Windy Wilson was going mad on fb, saying the A9 is closed and yet people keep piling onto it and the police are stopping them and turning them back. Snow gates shut all over the north but here it was snow earlier then turned to rain. Has gone very very calm and quiet now... but we've to get the storm tomorrow so I'm online while I have elect :)
  • Weather was, like most places, awful here today! Wind was crazy as was the rain, up to the car windows on some back roads! Tomorrow is apparently going to be worse, which isn't great when visiting family! Hope you all stay safe, warm and have a fantastic Christmas!

  • Pretty wet'n' windy here at the moment and I saw two cars skidding with surface water on the roads while driving home from DDs .Please if you are going out take great care as you are all precious to someone, and just slow down a bit, far better to be 10 minutes late in this world, than 10 minutes early in the next

  • Wind is back up again here Kittie, so I imagine you will be receiving it a bit later when it's done with west Cornwall. chickens have been soaked and blown about all day poor things and just as bed time rolled round it decided to stop raining, however, it is now blowing a hoolie again and piddling it down, can hear it roaring down the chimney like a cornish beast.

The noise of the wind is worst thing isn't it? Really starts to get on your nerves after a bit.

We're getting battered really well on the SE coast, we're up high on the cliffs and I've never felt my house move so much. Lights have been flickering for the past hour, so all chargeable things are charging, we have a gas hob so can heat water if required. I've put candles in hurricane vases in strategic places around the house as well as torches so we're set.

Local weather said it was 12 degrees today but after being out in it for 20 mins earlier I can assure you it wasn't anywhere near double figures.

Heating has been on all day at 17 degrees, enough to make e house comfortable with a couple of layers on. The way th e wind is blowing down the chimney I dare not light a fire. I pulled all the curtains at 11am, it wasn't going to get light so there seemed little point.

very windy and wet here too.

I am after some advice about our damp bedroom - water on shelves of wardrobe. Is a dehumidifier the best option. Have tried a bowl of salt but not seemed to do much. Never had a dehumidifier before. If i get one a run it until room damp free, how often is it recommended to repeat? - daily weekly?

Any advice would be great thanks :)

A dehumidifier would be best to tackle the damp but you need to find out why it's happening.

We leave ours on 24/7 and it switches on and off as it needs to (you set e humidity level). It's outside the bathroom on the landing so keeps the moisture levels down after we've all showered. It doesn't come on most days as we leave the bathroom window open slightly all day and have the bedroom windows on night time catches so there's a flow of air.

Do you know where the damp is coming from? Leaky gutter maybe?
