Hi All-- its been forever since I posted. I'm Kathy in New York (central part of the state-- not NYC). We get 125" (over 4 meters) of snow here every winter (thankfully not all at once). Its quite cold as well.
I hope to reconnect with past friends from this thread and make some new friends as well!
Welcome back!!!
Keep safe Mardatha - I don't envy you guys up there. I am a soft southerner so I think I would have to build a nest and hibernate if I lived where you do!!!Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

worth a look at met o as there is now an amber warning on south for tuesday and wednesday. Thanks Mar, I am sending dh up to the allotment this afternoon to pick sprouts and cabbage which I will hopefully keep ok in green bags. I don`t think we are venturing anywhere the next two days
It is def little ice age weather, characterised by these awful wild swings. The jet stream is going mad and whipping up the winds really badly. Not just the uk mind, there will be other severe weather and earthquakes all over the world
I am laying tall pots on their side this afternoon and putting more weight on a couple of things
Stay safe all and have a thought for emergency preps just in case as there will also be flooding. Undies, meds and insurance docs in a bag for example
I am watching the pressure,1008 now and am expecting 930, which is a severe depression ie v v bad. A sleepless night coming up ........ yet again0 -
They were saying too that there's another storm for the 27th - not sure if that's just us or the south. And if the power goes off on the 24th then another lot on the 27th will hinder and make things worse.
Cosy in everybody!0 -
yes mar, two phases on netweather and they are pretty good, oh I wish we has some gently falling snow and a nice bright sky, just like in the old days. The wind kills me0

It is the wind that is most scary isn't it. I am terrified for the house as I can't afford repairs if there is damage and I never know if it is covered by insurance or not

I am M4 corridor area, not far from Reading. I hope the worst of it misses us.
Batten down the hatches and snuggle in the warm everyone!Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

fruball, yes a lot easier but they are not forecasts as such, more guidance wrt the R factors and to be used with the short term met o forecasts. January is interesting if you are wanting to travel during the month eg we have arranged some work on the car during a specific few days as dh will cycle back. I`ll also be planting broad beans wrt the pc chart. He also publishes the pressure charts and it is worth following them too, to see how and where the highs and lows shift to and hence how the weather chart pans out. It was all hard to follow at first and I got my first one for dec 2011 as I was desperate to know if I should worry about picking ds up at the airport, we are inaccessible in heavy snow/ice and all the lanes around get flooded. I wouldn`t have bothered buying the sub since, if I didn`t think they were so good, not 100% all the time but pretty darn close. He gives a confidence % ie 70% is not that confident but it might happen
Met o has just changed the warning for sw to amber for rain plus yellow for wind. There will be people on the lane today clearing leaves off drains and with sandbags ready. Very dangerous to travel from here in flood as hugely deep ditches with unmarked flatlands on each side and no sign of where the lane runs when under water. The other lane is called ford lane for obvious reasons.0 -
Steady snow here for the last couple of hours.0

Boy are we getting battered down here, the wind got up in the night and hasn't stopped. was aa task to go let the chickens out this morning, soaked to the skin and lost half my hair. Nothing majorly damaged here except the back of my pj's aquired a nice stripe of mud when I slipped on my tush, fingers crossed it will soon head for higher areas... sorry guys but I would like to share the love and send you some wind and rain.:rotfl:Thriftkitten
