  • Hi

Just wondered if anyone with an additional cardholder on the account has tried to change products? Is this possible?

Probably going to upgrade from the initial card I've had for years to the Freedom Rewards card.

    Thanks

They will get new cards as well. Fine to switch.

    Thanks for the info.

Thanks to lawstudent as well for the Excel table - looks like I would get more by using the Cashback card (as long as I reach the 15 transactions threshold which at the moment I only do some months).

The Cashback card looks nicer too How does it look in real life? :p

    Hi
pmhtuk: Yes Barclaycard Initial can be reviewed for a transfer. You can request this on our website or contact our Customer Services team on the above number.

    Brendan,

I requested a transfer through the online website but didn't hear anything. I sent a message, then a reply that I'm not eligible for it. I'm at a loss, and currently raised a complaint as I can't see what 'eligibility' criteria there is on the transfer page, since hardly any information is provided.

Barclaycard customer services have offered me a credit to my account to 'apologise' but I've asked to raise a complaint as I don't see why any small token of money answers the question - they can't tell me what the eligibility criteria is - so I have no idea why I cannot upgrade to one!

I'll see what response I get, but I'd recommend that the 'criteria' is put online to avoid people trying to request a transfer when there is some hidden background to this - which the website doesn't state or imply that there is some checks or requirements to change.

    Hi pmhtuk,

    Thanks for your message.

As with all banking products, certain eligibility criteria is confidential as this related to the way a customer's risk or circumstances apply to our products.

By being declined for an upgrade this does not mean that you're a risk to Barclaycard; it just means that we're unable to upgrade you as you may not match the criteria for the product.

If you do wish to discuss this further, you can contact us on 0844 811 9111.

    Thanks, Richard.

    Hi.
I have to make a large spend each year, every year, in early January.

I'd like to therefore apply for this card in Nov/Dec, so that Jan falls within my 3 months @ 6%.
However, to be clever, I'd also like to apply on a date which ensures that my 4% annual anniversary period also covers 'early January'.

Can you recommend when the best time might be to submit my online application?
I notice the Ts+Cs state that the 4% applies:
"during the Statement Period which follows your Annual Statement".

So If I apply in Nov, my first statement will be Dec, which will mean the statement period FOLLOWING my annual statement, is Jan.
Is that right, or am I understanding it wrong.
When does one get their 'Annual Statement'?

    Thanks.
    SC.

p.s. Obviously I would make 14 other small transactions to satisfy the other terms.
p.p.s What is the cheapest item in tesco's, and would the self-service checkouts mind me buying 14 of them in separate transactions? What about the people behind me in the queue? :)

    Hi Sillychuckie,

Thanks for your comment. Your calculations are completely correct. To clarify:

Your annual statement will be produced on the 13th month of your account being open. This will also be the 2nd time that you receive your annual fee and the first time you receive your cash back credit. On month 14 you will receive a cashback booster to 4%.

If you would like to benefit from the cashback boosters of 6% and 4% in January 2013 & 2014 you should apply for the new card in December 2012.

    Thanks, Richard.

What if I only want to use the card for a year before stopping and cancelling it? Do I need to pay the 2nd year annual fee to get the cashback credited or can I cancel just before the end of the year and get the cashback still?

Also, the capped GBP120 for the first 3 months, does that only applies to the 6% cashback? Or it applies to the all cashback for those 3 months?

I applied to change my old Barclaycard to Freedom reward card few weeks ago, I recieved letter today that I will receive my new card after the next statement. ;)

I am now very pleased with that as I now have both Cashback and Freedom Reward card. :j

    Hi Richard,

I have just emailed Barclaycard using the online messaging service to confirm this and I got the following answer from the customer service. It begs the question of which answer will prevail?

"Upon checking our records, I would like to inform you that your account is not eligible for the product transfer to a Freedom Rewards Mastercard account at present.

As with the majority of standard account processes, eligibility checks are required to ensure we are treating customers fairly and that the new product is suitable for their needs."

    Thanks,
    P

It may raise a question but certainly doesn't beg one.
