I've turned my attention from animals to humans (more fool me! :rotfl: ) but it's a bioscience, human health, nutrition based degree :)
My daughter is doing biomedical genetics. When she was younger she wanted to be a doctor but realised that she didn't actually like whole people that much so decided to concentrate on the little bits that make them up instead :D:rotfl:

Don't be silly you're allowed the wine just not the coffee.

You are a student after all!:rotfl:

I guess from life experience I possibly do have in my favour better budgeting skills than most students/young people and I am anally retentive enough to have a 6mth cashflow forecast, so I know what impact every penny I spend today will have on me for the next 6mths :o

I aim to try and stay in credit although that's not always easy, especially given the huge amount I've spent on books already

Well good luck with it Chameleon.

ah the books. I knew they were expensive but I didn't realise HOW expensive they are.

I know it's only her first year but she's been strongly advised by her lecturers to either hire them or borrow from the library most of the books she needs this year. If she bought them all it's going to cost over £300 for just this year. And they will be out of date in the next year or so anyway.

    Thank you :D

I sometimes wonder why I'm bothering when lectures probe deep into my dark subliminal mind to re-awaken concepts I've long since forgotten, and many of which are now out of date :rotfl:

But, it's good to exercise the old brain cells and being around young people keeps us rejuvenated ;)

I've found the popular texts are constantly in demand meaning you can't renew frequently, so it makes sense to buy them. I've spent approx £250 so far but have another £200's worth in my Amazon basket. I borrow them from the library to evaluate their worth in buying ;)

Reading lists often provide multiple options to cater for different needs. You need to test before buying :)

It does indeed - I went to University as a mature student too and loved it.

    Still love learning.

Oh wow, I didn't realise! Just goes to show how we can misjudge one another on here. What did you study? I'm sure your daughter is incredibly proud of you, I know my son is, even if he thinks I'm just having a mid-life crisis :rotfl:

I started off studying Contemporary European Studies which was Politics, Economics, History and French but after my second year I had my daughter and was ill so wasn't able to go to France for a year which was part of that degree which was a four year degree; so I eventually went back to another University for my final year and ended up with a BA Hons in Modern European History and Politics.

I'm very proud of myself as I was in court engaged in a custody battle for my daughter during my finals but still managed to come away with a 2:1.

My daughter has definitely inherited my love of learning but my son has dyspraxia and school was an anathema for him but he has been a great success in chefing and now another field and he also has his own business which is doing very well.

So I am very proud of both of them too.
