A well known breeding ground for drunks and druggies - look at all the politicians who studied these!;)0 -
That seems very low.
Here are student living costs estimated by Universities.
Oxford Exeter Birmingham Nottingham Trent Bristol Manchester Liverpool Sussex Newcastle Reading Bath LSE UCL Cardiff Sheffield Kent Cambridge Edinburgh Hertfordshire Essex
Quite a big difference from your estimate.
They can't all be wrong!
They certainly aren't very MSE!
I've only looked at one and that gives an amount of £15 per week for clothes and £50 per week for leisure.
In fact, that university gives a income level of £11,676 for 42 weeks. Now, it's a bit late for maths but I make that equivalent to a net income of £14,500 or a gross income of about £18,000.
Quite honestly, if the other universities are using the same numbers then I'd disagree with you and say that yes, they can all be wrong!0 -
I agree with Dunroamin that the figures are very high. Here dead we lie because we did not choose

My daughter isn't particularly socalising with the people on her course - she said she needs to make more effort there.
She is going out with people from her accomadation and neighbouring block and also people she already knew there so studying a variety of subjects and of course she is encountering people she doesn't know.
The second group mainly hail from Muswell Hill a well known drug spot for the young and their parents! Here dead we lie because we did not choose

I assumed they were all quite similar because you said so. Of course, if you're not to be believed.....:D
So why do you think "all" the UK universities are lying about the cost of student living expenses????? (I'm assuming you couldn't possibly imagine that you are wrong or deluded.....)0 -
I am with dunroamin on this one. Given that someone on jsa or income support is allocated £71 a week to live on it seems crazy for these universities to suggest that students need double that.
What ever happened to cutting your cloth accordingly. Thay aren't earning after all. Or is all that money part of the "university experience"
What are they going to do when they get into work and have to actually earn this money and they are no better off?0 -
That is a coincidence Charlieismydarling - before I clicked on I was just thinking that very thought about cutting your cloth accordingly and as a parent also thinking about what you are reasonably able to give without it impacting negatively. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
