Hi all!
OK, so o2 contract up for renewal and can do my "one month early" thing from today.
Having been stuck with a pretty rubbishy Blackberry for past 2 years, I'm quite keen to get something good for a change (my phones have always been pretty dated / old battered hand me downs :puntil my blackberry 2 years ago).
I can't afford / dont really fancy an iphone, so I have had a look about and think I fancy a Samsung Galaxy, but which one?
With o2 at the mo and will obviously move if can find somethng much cheaper, but to be honest, most places seem to be much the same in terms of price etc, so to avoid the hassle of changing for not much saving, I will probs stay with o2.
Trying to cut down on all bills at the moment, currently pay £25 p/m for blackberry and dont really go over that (bill usually between £25-£27), and o2 will give me Samsung s2 for £21.50 p/m and £20 for handset, OR £37 p/m for S3 and £20 for handset. So does anyone know if the s3 really is much better than the s2?
Feel like I want a really cool phone for once, but know thats just a bit childish and is it really worth paying the extra for? (probably not! I know

Totally aware of the contradiction thanks - my question was really if the S3 really is much better then I would accept the higher cost and make my savings elsewhere.big bad debts: Gone!

I have had both (and still have the S2).
In a direct comparison, the s3 has a nicer camera, but it does feel like its made from recycled plastic.====0 -
thanks d123!
So you think better camera is really the only big difference?
In that case I would probs go for the S2 - upgrading from a v small, grainy, 2 megapixels, so I'm sure the s2's 8 megapixels would be just fine:)

Basically yes, the pic quality on the s2 is good, but it is bettered on the S3. Other than that, the S3 has a ungainly, difficult to use on the move, oversized screen.
In actual operation (ie used to phone, text, Internet, email, apps) the 2 phones operate pretty much the same.
I was quite happy to keep the s2 and sell the s3 (I got it as a free upgrade). The ungainly large size and cheaper feel of the finish put me off.====0 -
cheers, think I'll go for the S2 then :Tbig bad debts: Gone!

If I was after "a really cool phone for once" then defo I would pick Galaxy S3. The best way to decide is to compare both. Just google some reviews and most importantly play with both in shops http://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_s_ii_vs_galaxy_s_iii-review-764.php. Galaxy S3 is defo the cool one, Galaxy S2 is aging now but fully competent.
But I'm sure Galaxy S2 will make you happy. It's quite a leap from Blackberry to Galaxy S2.0 -
It's true, the leap forward from the BB is going to be massive so pretty much any modern smartphone will seem impressive. Given that you're going to be stuck with the phone for a couple of years, I'd be inclined to go for the best you can afford.
Personally, I went for the Galaxy Note, because of it's big screen and pen, which I find incredibly useful. It's not for everyone though."There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
The S3 is a big improvement over the S2 performance wise. However the S2 is no slouch and unless you'd had one, you'd not notice the difference. The S2 is a leap over your Blackberry and it will be getting Android 4.1 Jellybean which feels faster than ICS which is the current version.
If you want to save a few quid, go with the S2 - you won't be disappointed and as mentioned, you'll not really notice the difference in the speed during normal use. Its mainly games etc where there would be a difference.
BTW if you do decide to go for a S3, Three are doing a far better deal on the S3 - £34.99 a month on the ONE plan, no upfront for the phone WITH £101 Cashback through Quidco making it the equivalent of £30/month over the 24 months.0 -

Talking about that, I cannot wait for Samsung Galaxy Note 2. It's something between a tablet and phone, 5.5 inch screen, Jelly Bean. Hilarious to keep it by your ear when making phone calls.. but so cool at the same time
