Hi all,
Many thanks for all your adviceSo, the call has been made, and the S2 (in white
) has been ordered; with 14 day trial, so if I dont like it, I can change, but as many have pointed out, its going to be a maaasive leap from my wee BB so I'm sure I'll be happy with it
Mazza and Dr B - thats what I was hoping for, and I did try it, but apparantly for the S3 (and also iphone 5's) they can offer absolutely zero discounts / incentives at the moment. On the s2 I got the handset for free as a discount which would usually be £60 on the £21.50 tarriff.
Could see some cheaper deals out there with other networks but they seem to be less data allowance, so think I've (hopefully) got the best deal.
Bad timing for the end of my contract though what with all the madness around the iphone5, total nightmare trying to get through to any of the mobile companies
So cheers again guys! my lovely new phone will be arriving tomorrow or Fri and I can't wait to fiddle about with it and take photos and stuffbig bad debts: Gone!

The S3 is not made from cheap or recycled plastic. I hear this argument many times, but it's completely bogus.
It's actually made from an expensive polycarbonate which absorbs shock.
Speaking from personal experience (which is what the OP was asking for) in a direct comparison the plastic (ok, just for you, we will call it polycarbonate), the polycarbonate is thin, and creaky, and feels greasy even when clean, it has a shine like cheap [STRIKE]plastic[/STRIKE] polycarbonate and reminds me of the [STRIKE]plastic[/STRIKE] polycarbonate the original white ZTE San Francisco was made from.
The S and the S2 feel to be made from a higher quality material.
Personal opinion from someone who has owned the original Galaxy S, the S2, the S3 and the N7000 Note.
You do also realise that polycarbonate is just a form of plastic?
Why are so many S3 owners so belligerently defensive of their precious phone?
Is it maybe because they couldn't afford an iPhone 5 they feel the need to jump up and down and defend the S3 to the death.
Just wondering....
Crazycatlady1984, I'm sure you'll be more than happy with the S2, they look wonderful in white and are a nice size that is easy to use even one handed (especially for the female hand).====0 -

It's actually made from an expensive polycarbonate which absorbs shock. All those who praise the high-end HTCs and old iphones for "feeling more expensive" are missing the point. A hard metal shell transmits shock to more sensitive and vulnerable areas, whereas a polycarbonate shell absorbs more energy and transmits less shock, as well as being lighter.
As for the size being unwieldy - well on jumping from an ancient SE P910 to an S3, I don't find that at all. On the contrary it makes watching video a pleasure. The fact that it is so thin and light makes it feel less bulky anyway.
I was weighing up the Note, but I found the S3 more easily pocketable, whereas the Note can cause occasional problems - say if you want to stick it in the pocket of a pair of tight jeans.Speaking from personal experience (which is what the OP was asking for) in a direct comparison the plastic (ok, just for you, we will call it polycarbonate), the polycarbonate is thin, and creaky, and feels greasy even when clean, it has a shine like cheap [STRIKE]plastic[/STRIKE] polycarbonate and reminds me of the [STRIKE]plastic[/STRIKE] polycarbonate the original white ZTE San Francisco was made from.

I wouldn't think the feel of the phones plastic case is that relevant anyway. Don't most people put a case on their phone, to give it extra protection from damage if dropped? DH and I certainly do, I got this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004TLJONK/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00 (similar is available in white) which makes my phone less slippery to hold, and does act as a shock absorber (dropped it on a hard wooden floor the other day, no problem at all). Well worth the extra £3. Don't forget to get screen protector too, just in case you put the phone in your bag next to your car keys or sumink http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoneM8%C2%AE-Samsung-Galaxy-Screen-Protector/dp/B004Y6PUDI/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_img_b .I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

Goodness me, how boring is this argument.
Just because someone does not own an iphone, dosent mean they couldnt afford one. Some people prefer to own better technology and as such go for phones such as the Galaxy S3.
So its ok for you to say it feels cheap, but as soon as someone disagrees with you, you have a little hissy fit.
I cant see what problem people have with it being plastic. I personally quite like the look and feel of the S3.
PS - Coming from someone thats could by an iPhone 5, but wouldnt want to downgrade.0 -
You wont be dissapointed with the Galaxy S2
It does however like to use a fair bit of battery, so make sure you download and app called "Juice Defender" from Google Play. Its a free app and can easily double your battery life by turning things off when your screen is off. Has plenty of settings. I paid £1.99 to get the pro version after I realised how good it was and wanted some more settings to increase battery life further.0 -
"Juice Defender" from Google Play
Informed opinion is that program consumes more than it saves .
SGS2 anyone buying one will have a very useful piece of kit especially if/when it gets the Jellybean update .
If the SGS3 was not on the market i would buy another SGS2 .

I don't think you will be disappointed with the S2 either. Although you might get a shock when you see the size of it, especially if you're used to a small phone :rotfl:
My fella went from the Samsung Galaxy Europa to an S2. He said he'll need to give up smoking now as there's no room in his pocket for his baccy :rotfl:
I don't see it as a matter of money in the choice of Samsung over Iphone. I see it as personal choice, you go with what feels best for you. It's a personal choice, I've never owned an apple product, and probably never will. I see them as very over priced for what they are, but that's just me.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
the difference between the two is about £15 a month. Surely you can save £15 elsewhere in order to have the better phone. Being thrifty is good but when you are on your death bed will you think to yourself, "I'm so glad I never treated myself to nice things, denied myself small luxuries and scraped and saved every penny."0
