I don't see it as a matter of money in the choice of Samsung over Iphone. I see it as personal choice, you go with what feels best for you. It's a personal choice, I've never owned an apple product, and probably never will. I see them as very over priced for what they are, but that's just me.

I've owned Apple products and I've sold them too. I think the iPhone is very typical of what Apple do: they take current technology and offer it in a appealing, easy-to-use package that simply works, right out of the box. And they charge a hefty premium for doing so.

If you want a zero-hassle solution and you're quite fashion conscious, the iPhone is a unquestionably a good product. Alternatively, if you don't mind having to fiddle around with the thing to make it work and tend to see your phone as less of a fashion accessory and more of a tool, you can save yourself a lot of money and get the latest technology, as opposed to last year's technology.

Informed opinion is that program consumes more than it saves .

SGS2 anyone buying one will have a very useful piece of kit especially if/when it gets the Jellybean update .
If the SGS3 was not on the market i would buy another SGS2 .

Based on my expereinces and also mt partners, its at least doubled the battery life of our phones.

Simple test, use the phone without it and use the phone with it on. Just make sure you have it set up correctly.

Speaking from personal experience (which is what the OP was asking for) in a direct comparison the plastic (ok, just for you, we will call it polycarbonate ;) ), the polycarbonate is thin, and creaky, and feels greasy even when clean, it has a shine like cheap [STRIKE]plastic[/STRIKE] polycarbonate and reminds me of the [STRIKE]plastic[/STRIKE] polycarbonate the original white ZTE San Francisco was made from.

The S and the S2 feel to be made from a higher quality material.

Personal opinion from someone who has owned the original Galaxy S, the S2, the S3 and the N7000 Note...

Your personal opinion is one thing - implying that the S3 is an inferior product because it it made out of "cheap plastic" is another. It's simply not true. What you "feel" or don't feel is irrelevant in terms of the true nature of the S3 and the reason Samsung have constructed it in the way they have.
You do also realise that polycarbonate is just a form of plastic?
That's what they told me when I studied Chemistry at London University. They also told me that there are different forms of plastic with different properties - "expensive polycarbonate" (my words) is not the same as "cheap plastic" (your words). Surprisingly, they managed to teach me all that without making facetious and condescending remarks. Maybe you should try that sometime.
Why are so many S3 owners so belligerently defensive of their precious phone?
Is it maybe because they couldn't afford an iPhone 5 they feel the need to jump up and down and defend the S3 to the death.
    Just wondering....
I'm not an S3 owner (I simply used one for a short while) and I'm not belligerently defensive of anything. In fact you seem to be the one getting belligerently defensive about being corrected.

For what it's worth, I fully understand why iphones might be the best choice for some people and I also understand why some people prefer the S3. I was simply correcting your criticism of the S3, apparently based on the mistaken assumption (or "feeling") that the S3 is made of cheap materials - a myth that is fairly widespread to be fair.

In answer to your question - Some S3 owners behave in that way for probably the same reason some apple afficionados feel the need to do down any alternative to apple products. In other words a juvenile, pointless and slightly worrying personal identification with an inanimate lump of electronics - along with the desire to demonstrate the fact that they are more discerning than the hoi polloi.
Crazycatlady1984, I'm sure you'll be more than happy with the S2, they look wonderful in white.
I prefer them in black. I guess that's Personal Opinion for you.
  • hi all,

Many thanks for all your advice. My S2 has arrived and, so far, I love it!!

Will keep an eye on the battery life as some of you have mentioned, and also, yes the size is taking a bit of getting used to after my wee BB, but loving the screen :D

Quick question I was hoping some of you Samsung users may be able to help me with - is there a "profiles" function? As in, to have diff sound settings etc. For years now, on my Nokias and BB's etc, I have had standard profiles set up, eg normal, sleeping, work, etc and I just flick between them. On this, all I can see is volume button at the side to turn it down at bedtime?

Also, I want to be notified when I get a txt msg, but the phone is beeping every time I get an email, which is every 2mins!! On my BB I had it so that phone would beep/vibrate for texts/social media, but when it was just an email, it would just flash up on screen, but not vibrate or beep. Any ideas how I would do this? The "settings" part of the phone doesnt seem have many options :undecided

Don't know if it changed in later versions of Android, but in my phone it's called 'Scenes' and is available through 'Menu'.

That sounds promising. Having trouble even finding "Menu" though! :o Will have another look and if all else fails, will read the manual :D

I believe s3 is an amazing phone and handy to carry than the note2..they have added the stylus and extra screen size. trust me, buy anyone of them and you should be happy..go for the s3 if you want something handy or note 2 if you like bulky phones.

There isnt any sound profiles on the gs2 except for silent. You need a app for anything else.
Try volume ace app on the market as that sets up sound profiles.

Another app well worth getting is noled as that uses the screen for different notifications. As the galaxy s2 doesnt have any notification led, noled does that with screen icons.Be aware it can be battery draining so need to set times for icons to be displayed.

On the txt notifications and email, you need to go in the apps for the settings.

I will say quite a few apps can be time consuming to setup, but will worth it in the end.
