    Personally i would never tip.

I don't tip when we're eating out. My missus does, but i generally don't.

The way i see it is, nobody tips me or those i work with in a builders yard, so why should i be expected to tip someone serving me some food? Someone serving me food is no different to me serving someone some bricks ....... someone is wanting & someone is giving, simple as.

I get paid a wage by my boss. The waiter/chef/etc gets paid a wage by their boss, it's no different. If their wage is low/lower as their boss has factored in tips, then that's their own issue, not mine.

What really gripes me is when you go to the hospital & the nurses patch you up, do you tip them? No! Yet they work in much more stressful conditions than someone serving a pizza. Their job is much more valuable (in my OPINION). Nobody tips the nurses yet they deserve it more than some pizza delivery guy.

So would i tip a take away delivery guy or a waitress etc? No, not a chance.

Good argument. Every personal financial decision you make should always be linked to nurses.

However I would say that alot of people buy a thank you gift for nurses after receiving treatment on a ward. Based on your post you obviously don't do that either!

Okay, the comparison with nurses is not great as their salary isn't topically that of a pizza delivery man but you get the point

The wage for a delivery driver at the Chinese I'm at is £17 for the night. The delivery charge goes direct to the driver as does tips.

On a good night the driver can earn £70 to £80 if tips are good. A bad night could see £30 max. The shift is 6 1/4 hours. From that the driver has to pay fuel and if they are doing it properly, their insurance will be more expensive with adding business class to it.

The problem with this sort of arrangement is that the employer is getting away with paying less than minimum wage, and the employee if they have a bad night blames the customer for their poor wage rather than their employer.

On the rare ocassions I get a pizza delivered I have never even thought of tipping, they are a rare and expensive treat! I pay on-line anyway and may not even have any money in the house.

Rarely tip anyone at all as I really don't like the practice. Lots of people work very hard for minimum wage or not much more.

The real problem is that a large percentage of the population are so stupid that they actually think they are getting something for nothing with 'free' delivery.

Of course, they are not getting anything of the kind.

The cost of delivery (to the business owner) is factored into the cost of the food.

That's why so many offer a discount for collection. (And why I would never collect from someone who didn't.)

The real losers in this are the people who place big orders because the increase in food cost is based on a minimum order and they are not getting any discount - unless they chose a 'deal', if available.

It's a great pity that more people don't actually give a little thought to who is paying for their 'free' this and that. One thing you can be quite certain of is that it is not coming from the bottom line of the business involved. (The exception being businesses who are desperate for any custom.)

Ah but see, you trying to be smart is where you went wrong...

I don't discriminate. I don't tip anyone. I don't buy cards for anyone (except family). I treat it all equal.

My opinion (because this is what this entire thread is - opinion) was aimed at those who argue you should tip.

So you don't buy a birthday/Christmas card for anyone you're not related to? Isn't that weird?

I assume you get invited to birthdays/weddings/christenings. Do you just tell them you refuse to buy cards?

    Is that not incredibly awkward?
