The good service should come first with the tip totally at the discretion of the customer.

Though looking at the point of view from the driver/waiter, what would be the point of making an effort and providing, a good service to everyone equally, including those that don't/won't tip.

I would imagine they may feel they're wasting their time or even demoralised, where they can put their efforts to those who reward their good service and efforts with a tip.

I was wondering when someone was going to post that they never tipped due to national minimum wage, usually the next argument that appears is "Would you tip a doctor/teacher?"

I think some takeaway delivery people are self employed and only get paid per delivery they do. This is why they are not paid minimum wage.

Well ye... because it's a valid argument.

Think the practice of tipping is very Downton Abbey and dont feel right tipping people for doing there job. Dont do it out of principle.

its not a valid argument. Its an argument that people who are too tight to tip hide behind.

  • I don't tip. Judging by this thread, people tip as bribery for good service rather than a reward for good service. Very strange.

The less than NMW rubbish needs to be taken up with the employer, not the customer.

And, I'd hope that people who call others "too tight to tip" make sure they offer a tip to everyone who offers them a service, otherwise they're complete hypocrites.

Tipping is a perk for any job, not something you should expect. Let alone something society should feel they have to do in certain industries.

I don't tip the cashier at £land, am I tight?

I go up to the next pound and add a one usually for a pizza pack of chips and salad order. Don't think they make much

Judging by your attitude towards tipping I would say yes you are tight. At the very least you are thrifty.

However this is a moneysaving site filled with people looking at ways of saving money so I imagine a large majority of people on here have a similar stance as you do.

Personally when the price to collect a takeaway is the same as to have that takeaway delivered then I tip the delivery driver. I can afford to and it seems like the polite thing to do.

    Personally i would never tip.

I don't tip when we're eating out. My missus does, but i generally don't.

The way i see it is, nobody tips me or those i work with in a builders yard, so why should i be expected to tip someone serving me some food? Someone serving me food is no different to me serving someone some bricks ....... someone is wanting & someone is giving, simple as.

I get paid a wage by my boss. The waiter/chef/etc gets paid a wage by their boss, it's no different. If their wage is low/lower as their boss has factored in tips, then that's their own issue, not mine.

What really gripes me is when you go to the hospital & the nurses patch you up, do you tip them? No! Yet they work in much more stressful conditions than someone serving a pizza. Their job is much more valuable (in my OPINION). Nobody tips the nurses yet they deserve it more than some pizza delivery guy.

So would i tip a take away delivery guy or a waitress etc? No, not a chance.
