iammarmite wrote: »Dusty kitten- do your children contribute towards that petrol you pay for to pick them up. Seeing as we are all being treated as typical, indecent human beings here- I'm going to say no. Thats the difference between me and them. I don't expect a free taxi if someone is going out of their way and putting a hole in their night for me.
DS1 pays me rent out of the £55 he earns a week. His job is 1 mile away so costs me about 40p in petrol. I pick him up willingly as he is cashing up and locking up on his own at 9:30-10 pm at night. It is in quite a remote location so I feel happier doing this, it is one night a week, his friend picks him up the other night. He pays for his own phone, all clothes etc, social life etc.
DS2 works 1 mile away in the other direction. On a Friday he will have left the house at 7:45 to catch the bus to school. He gets home at 4:30 (this is everyday). He starts work at 7pm and finishes at 10:30 - quite a long day I think for somebody of his age. He is back at work on Saturday for 7 hours. He does not have to pay me the 80p petrol per day. He will tonight willing babysit for his younger brother for free after I collect him. I have never paid him to babysit - it's give and take in our house.
BTW it is not me going out of the way for them, they are my children it's what I do as a Mum.The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

My parents haven't paid a penny for anything for me since I was 13/14. My grandparents paid my school fees- and I buy them things as that thank you even now despite leaving school three years ago. Unfortunately I don't have £45,000 to give them or I happily would.
Anyway....since 14? Paid for a lot of my own food, my own clothes. My own entertainment....everything really. Generous gifts at Christmas (usually a lot more than me and my brother get but it doesn't bother me in the slightest)

Different illness.I'm obviously not willing to post how money I get a month. I have my JSA, and my DLA- ...
You don't need to; from everything you've said here, we can do the maths and pretty much know how much money you're getting in DLA/JSA, and we can also work out what cost of living is for someone like you in the area you live.
You say:My parents haven't paid a penny for anything for me since I was 13/14.
So since 13 years old, you have personally supported yourself in everything, covering all your expenditure including:
rent
food and household consumables
purchase of white goods and furniture etc.
gas and electricity
phone, internet and TV
mobile phone bills
clothes
council tax
I don't know what rental properties or rooms go for in your area (I would guess minimum £250PCM) but, given that you can afford £150 towards the car, and to smoke, and are saving for a trip to NY, I can say with a reasonable amount of confidence that whatever you give your parents "all inclusive", is significantly less than what it would cost you to be living on your own.
Are you sure your parents "haven't paid a penny for anything" for you?
Their financial responsibility towards you ended when you turned 18. The reason they haven't - and most parents don't - kick their kids out and enjoy their child free lives when they come of age is because they love you... and this is what you have to say about them:...Generous gifts at Christmas (usually a lot more than me and my brother get but it doesn't bother me in the slightest)
Do what most of us here have done; move out, stand on your own two feet, find out just how bloody hard it is out there. Get a reality check.
And, no, to answer your original question, you're not being reasonable."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

Please, intrigue me. How much is my income? Oh wait....sorry. There isn't such thing as a mind reader. :rotfl:

QED - you need to grow up or find a new toy to play with.
Maybe you need to practice what your preach. I might be being immature, but it's nothing your not doing. Which makes you a hypocrite too.0 -
Seeing as everyone is obviously just SO intrigued to know my personal business:
I smoke socially- maybe 10/20 a month. So there less than £10
Mobile phone- £40/45
Petrol and insurance you already know.
Savings- £50-100 depending if I manage to sell anything on eBay
Food another £100/150
Clothes- monthly saving of £25 and I buy a new wardrobe once a year.
Going out maybe another £30-50 depending on what we do.
Rent is another £100
Easily covered out of £650PM.0 -

Sgt Pepper, you seem to have an obsession with me. I'm flattered, really I am.
But there is an old pram in the garage and a dummy in the cupboard. Just give me a shout if you need them and need your nappy changing.0 -

No offence but you're a smoker and will therefore stink. So find someone else to play those games with.0
