If your hubby really hates any synthetic smell, then there is no point in purchasing any product made from synthetic material. In this case you would be better off going for pocket sprung only.

This is the reason we are getting the pillows in advance to see how we get on. He smelled the ones from bhs and didn't seem as bothered by it as I was - he usually moans about the smell of cooking in the house, homes that smell of pets, a table we once had that he reckoned smelled musty etc ... ie nasty niffs rather than synthetic ones, so hopefully he will be ok with this as at least it is a clean kind of smell. I so want MF - heard such exciting things about getting a good nights sleep - don't suppose they can do much about the baby that wakes up twice a night though, eh!?

You can't really use the pillows as a comparison for the mattress. The perflex pillows are made from the trimmings from memory foam mattress production. These are then ground down and mixed with a small quantity of latex foam (to give the pillow a bit of spring). The mix then goes into a pillow case which is why it has a normal pillow shape.

So as you can imagine the chemicals will have dried out completely by the time the pillow is actually made. But there is allways the chance that the memory foam used on a mattress may have only been manufactured a couple of days before you receive the mattress.

I've just had a good sniff of my Calypso mattress, and my Perflex pillows, and to be honest I can't smell anything at all (not even the smell you might expect from a one year old mattress.

As for the baby waking up......they do actually make ear plugs out of memory foam.

The same seller has now listed some perflex pillows (they seem to be exactly the same as bedlum beds pillows) for £26 delivered for the pair, which seems to be a brilliant price. I usually have 2 pillows, but admittedly they are rubbish quality and veeerrrry flat. Not sure whether to get 1 pillow each or 2. Ella, or anyone with MF pillows, how many do you have? I'm guessing one MF pillow is probably sufficient as probably 2 would take your head and neck out of line with the rest of the body.

I've also heard back from a couple of ebay buyers of the Calypso mattress and they both absolutely rave about them. Both said that the smell faded very quickly, so that's boosted my confidence and the MF mattress project is back on again!
i would defo invest in a calypso they really are the dogs ******,i didnt get a strong smell at all just a new smell if you know what i mean, but just get 1 m-f pillow thats defo all you need,& in reply to the cost i suppose you get what you pay for but just keep asking, mine are dreamy.:o :p

I ordered the perflex ones from the ebay seller yesterday, only 2, and they've just arrived. They certainly look fab and they only have a very slight smell as Tim said. Not going to have any problem with that. Looking forward to going to bed!!

We're defo going to order a Calypso - heard from 5 buyers now who all rave about them (as well as you Ella). Just got to decorate the room first, trying to pluck up the courage to start the job :o - also waiting for delivery date of the bedstead I've ordered which is currently awaiting stock.

ER..ella isnt the site you have been recommending profusely the company owned by Tim Deegan called bedlumbeds? Is someone operating a scam here,or was that an an amazing coincidence that you just popped up in reply to a question to recommend a bed shop, and conveniently managed to plug the website twice within 5 posts . er..wheres Tim Gone he was on this board this afternoon....?

Don't think Tim Deegan hides the connection, but nor does he advertise it specifically. Easy enough to do a search for him on ebay as I did... can assure you there is no scam in operation. I ordered the Calypso in the end (after my deliberations above) and it is truly divine. Me and hubby can't get into bed quick enough these days ;):p

Can't fault the service or the product. Second to none. And I'm a bit of a mse regular... so hopefully you won't find it suspicious that I'm recommending.

And the smell was negligible too :j

Why would it be a coincidence??? It's more like common sense.....I first found mse because I have a tracker on my web site that tells me how people found my web site. Someone who had purchased from me previously had posted a link to my site, and a few people had followed it.

Most of my posts are giving people advice and correcting much of the cr#p that many bed sales reps talk.

Would you be saying the same thing if the owner of mattressman posted on here?

The fact is that my company is becoming a well known internet based business, so just as many people on here have used mattressman in the past, it also stands to reason that a few people may have used my company.

Now obviously both purplepatch and ella123 have purchased from me, but I don't have a clue who they are (I've searched my accounts program for the surnames 123 and patch but it hasn't come up with anyone)

As for the fact that I was apparently on line on the same day as ella123, well I usually do come on line when someone has posted in a thread I am subscribed to.

So I wouldn't say that it is a coincidence that there are 2 satisfied customers of mine in here as I try my best to make sure all my customers are satisfied, so I'm actually quite chuffed about it.

There are nothing subtle about all this.As for "he doesnt advertise it specifically",well no,he doesnt because he knows he is not allowed too on here.

    No-one is.

Purplepatch i can see you are a regular.

Tim,I have to admire people who work hard at their business.

I notice whatever company or product OPs mention they are buying/have bought, you always manage to diss it,and recommend your products/prices/advice as the best. As I said, its not subtle.

This site is supposed to be impartial. That doesnt mean saying only you know best and everyone else is talking c@rp,cos thats just.. well, its not impartial,is it?

Well Im not sure about Tims impartiality but he has given out some good advice and answered a lot of questions I had asked myself. I could never get my head around the non turn thing, but a marketing gimmick certainly seems to make sense to me.

Anyway Ive a few other questions for you Tim if you dont mind.

I have seen a bed made by Harrison, by all accounts a very good make, it has a sprung base, but it isn't edge sprung. So it has a hard border around it but is springy in the middle. So if you sit on it its firm and you dont feel as though your sliding of it, if you get what I mean. The salesperson, as ever is saying this is a feature and that they have listened to their customers and implemented this firm border. How you get a straight answer out of these people, I dont know as I also asked about another mattress with a non memory foam mattress top and I asked straight out if it would end up like an old lumpy pillow after a few years and she actually said "no". Anyway they are the only divan bases I have seen that have this non edge sprung "feature"? Is their anything particularly wrong with this non edge sprung base or should we stick to looking for a fully sprung edge base?

Also this bed is a AIS (Assoc Independant stores) brand made specially for the AIS stores by Harrison, so it doesn't appear on the Harrison website. It has 2250 pocket springs and costs around £1299. However other non AIS Harrison beds in the same store that do appear on the Harrison website which have around 1600 pocket springs cost more and are much much nicer beds to lie on. Whats going on with this spring count then if they have more springs yet are cheaper and not as nice? Again the salesperson just mubbled junk and never had an answer just telling me they were the same quality.

Anyway I can get a discount with this store and this bed seems to fit the bill but because I cant compare prices elsewhere Im getting itchy feet wondering whether this bed is a compromise and may not be the best I can get for my money.

Not sure if you can help with this but your comments will be appreciated.
