I'd like to respond to this post as I think it's misleading.
I am a qualified Osteopath, and I also have a kingsize Ergoflex mattress.
Firstly, I would state that the information you have received from the Osteopath you sold a mattress to is entirely their OWN opinion. If it was that easy for us to prescribe a certain type of mattress to patients to relieve ailments our lives would be very simple.
The reality is that each individual that suffers with back, neck or spine problems have conditions that are unique to them. After all, we all come in different weights, shapes and sizes.
Sweeping generalisations claiming a certain style or brand of mattress to be superior for your back are extremely questionable. What is best for each of us is very subjective - some prefer firm, some soft, etc, etc.
Moreover, I researched these mattresses for quite some time before opting for the Ergoflex, and the independent information I found was the exact antithesis of your recommendations. For example, I read on multiple websites to be wary of mattresses that use cheap densities of memory foam around 55kg m/3 as they are unlikely to have any supportive longevity. (I have to say It is slightly suspicious that your 'independent' recommendations also match the specification of the mattresses that you are selling on ebay...)
To round up, I'd like to say I have purchased the Ergoflex mattress and could not be happier, I find it extremely comfortable and it has certainly improved the quality of my sleep.
Please be mindful though that everyone has different tastes, so it's best to decide what suits your preferences and draw up a checklist of requirements prior to making a decision.
You spend a great deal of time on your mattress, so it is important to get this right.

Hi Dr Davis
Please don't get me wrong, unlike what some more paranoid poeple on MSE seem to think I'm not on here to sell my own products. I found this site because I have a tracker on my web site which tells me how people found my site. One of my previous customers had put a link to my site on here. It was only then that I realised how much rubbish people are often told by sales staff in bed shops. So I started my crusade to give people honest advice.
Now I'm no osteopath, and don't suffer from back pain, so I listen to people who do know. When we sold the Calypso and Eros to the osteopath in question I asked if it was her own opinion, or the general view of her profession. She said that it was the view of her whole profession due to the way the mattresses are constructed, which makes sense if you think about it:
a) A pocket sprung mattresscontours tou your body far better than a reflex foam mattress. If you push down on one spring on a pocket sprung mattress then the surrounding springs won't compress. If you try pusing down on the same area with a reflex foam mattress, then the surrounding area will also compress.
b) With a reflex/memory foam mattress the layers are glued together, but pocket springs have more free movement.
The osteopath also said that she actually used to work for Tempur. She said that she wouldn't by a Tempur mattress for 2 reasons: "1) they are over priced, and 2) they aren't as good as they would like you to believe".
If you have done loads of research into memory foam mattresses then you will know that Tempur came bottom in the Which magazine report. The Ergoflex mattress is similar in design to Tempur. I'm not suggesting for a second that Tempur or Ergoflex aren't any good. They are in fact very good mattresses, but they aren't the best type for support.
As for the density of the memory foam, the optimum density is supposed to be 60 to 65kg, although as you say you can go firmer if you prefer, although it is often better to have a firmer layer under the memory foam instead because memory foam with a density that is too high will not allow you to sink into it enough to contour to your body and give maximum support. 55kg is lower than ideal, but is the lowest recommended density for people who prefer a softer mattress.
It is considered better to change the firmness of the lower layer rather than go too far outside the recommended density range for the memory foam.0 -

If I'm totally honest, I too had suspicions about impartiality before I researched, read through Tim's previous posts, looked at Which reports, read other articles, went to various department stores and listened to all the sales patter, laid on a lot of beds of varying density, with and without pocket springs, emailed previous ebay purchasers for advice........ and came to the conclusion like Baz, that Tim talks a lot of sense. Anyway, like I said, I couldn't be more satisfied with my new bed.
So which mattress did you buy in the end. I couldn't find it among your previous posts...

Does anybody know of any mattress shops online/in London that offer the possibility of returning a purchased mattress if unsatisfied and no questions asked.
Do any of them offer returns periods longer than 7 days upon delivery?
Thanks!0 -
Does anyone know what the current best topper would be for a normal double bed?
Cheers0 -

I know of one that will do that as long as they don't suspect that you are just using the bed short term for a guest, but I'm not allowed to give their name out on here0 -

What densities are the "firm" and "soft" foams offered with the Eros/Calypso range?
There seem to be three variables for divans using these mattresses: 1000 springs or 1500, firm or soft foam, and platform or sprung base. Presumably the firmest is 1000 spring, firm foam, platform base, and the softest 1500 spring, soft foam, sprung base, but how would you place in order from firmest to softest the other six combinations, i.e.:
1000 spring, soft foam, platform base
1000 spring, firm foam, sprung base
1000 spring, soft foam, sprung base
1500 spring, soft foam, platform base
1500 spring, firm foam, sprung base
1500 spring, firm foam, platform base

Thought it would be worth posting on this thread as I have read this one (and all the others with Tim Deegan on) with interest.
I bought the Eros with a sprung base (no drawers) and the firm memory foam last week and I absolutely love it. I have had back problems for years (since I had 2 spinals) and while the problems didn't disappear overnight we have had the bed a week and I have seen a constant improvement until last night where I had my first undisturbed nights sleep.
I would definitely rate the mattress medium to firm (even though it's the softer Eros) and I like a firmer mattress.
My husband rang and spoke to Tim and his thoughts were that he is a genuinely nice, helpful guy. No hard sales patter! I was very nervous about ordering over the internet but I think they must understand that is a problem as they take their time answering questions. The customer service was faultless and the mattress was delivered 3 days after ordering it, the only quibble being that it was a bit late arriving (a couple of hours). It appears to be very good quality and we would highly recommend them to our friends and family.
Just thought after using this forum so extensively to make our decision on the whole bed buying process we should really give something back!0 -

Isn't it strange when posts keep vanishing??
I replied to faddy on here by saying that I can't answer direct questions about our own products in the forum..........then my post vanished which made it look as if I was rude by not replying0
