It used to be double sided, but from what I understand it isn't any more. So you may have been lucky enough to receive one from old stock from when they were two sided.0 -
Ive still yet to have a look round the smaller independant bed retailers by me, waiting until my decorating is done next week then need to find a new mattress, did look in Bensons today as was walking past - helpful manager not pushy in any way so had a good look round - really liked the Melbourne indulgence mattress until I realised it was £749:eek:
Others I liked were the own brand (no idea who makes those for Bensons manager said it was a middle of the range company?) this one was organic cotton at £399. The cheapest one I tried which felt good but not as supportive as others was a backcare orthapedic at £299 on offer at £199.
Tim - unusual question maybe but do most mattresses contain wool? Am asking as I dont tend to buy things that contain animal products - so am wondering if I might be ruling out a lot of mattress options there? Are there ranges that do not contain wool?
I cant find your original answers/comments when I first posted about a new mattress? Im after a double one for a slatted metal base - think you said a pocket sprung one would be a good bet for me?
Im not really wanting to spend more than £300 but typically the ones I like are in the £500 range.
Will try a few local places later in the week.....see whats on offer.Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

Most mattresses don't actually contain wool. The ones that do tend to be more expensive. Many modern materials used are actually better than wool, but some people will pay more for natural products.I cant find your original answers/comments when I first posted about a new mattress? Pocket sprung would only be any good if you lay a sheet of pegboard or hardboard over the slats. Beware because some sellers will tell you that their pocket sprung mattresses are ok for slatted bases. The truth is that you can use them, but they won't last as long.Im not really wanting to spend more than £300 but typically the ones I like are in the £500 range.
You should be able to find good quality pocket sprung mattresses for around £300, but you may have to look on line.0 -

Thanks Tim, Id not want one containing wool as Im vegan!
Il have to visit some local smaller bed stores to try a few out and then Il price check online, would rather buy in store but if there is a massive price difference online Il use that option. If I did not go for pocket sprung due to having slatted bed base what would be the other options? I want this next matteress to last longer than my last 2 cheaper ones!

This was offered to me at the Uddingston store in Glasgow. I went to my local one to see if they had a display to try and they hadn't heard of the offer. They phoned uddingston and when I went back an hour later they too had the fax.
They said the Linen one was a better mattress, but i didn't want to buy a mattress without trying it (they had no floor model) As I said this offer isn't on the site.
Thought this may help.0 -
Also, I liked a mattress in bensons which was over £1,000 and low and behold the salesman offered it to me at just over £700, so knocking off about a third. This shows it was overpriced to begin with but also that their prices aren't set in stone.0

You can usually get much better deals on line, as they don't have the same overheads as shops.
What size of mattress were you after?0 -

It is quite common for bed shops to add between 400 and 500% mark up on beds, which is why they can often offer what appear to be huge discounts, that are really just closer to what the price should be.0 -
I'm getting an Ikea bed and need advice on the slatted bed bases.
I'm getting Malm Bed with a Hamnvik Mattress 140 width (so a double).
There are 3 lots I'm looking at.
I guess I'd need 2 lots of these.
Any recommendations on;

Any pointers?0 -

Unless you lay a sheet of pegboard or hardboard over the slats.
Open coil are more suitable on their own, but for the many people who would prefer a pocket sprung only, then using board to spread the weight over the slats gives them the option.0
