I've read quite a few posts but not all and would be really grateful for some advice.
We bought a cabin bed off E-bay for our son. Since he had it a few months ago, he hasn't been back in our bed at all! He loves it but has commented a few times that is is uncomfortable and is now saying he wants to sleep in a different bed (not sure whether he's trying it on). It does feel quite lumpy and, as he is 4 and will hopefully be in it for a while, we thought we should buy him a comfy mattress.
However, like all MSE's we don't want to spend too much. A lot of the posts I've read seem to say a mattress is around £400, but that seems quite pricey to me. We paid £80 for the whole bed which, apparently, had hardly been used. Are there any suitable mattresses around the £100 mark?0 -

Thanks Frugaloodle. Yes, we belong to Quidco, only recently though. Will check out a few sites there.0 -

You can get a top of the range, 10" deep, open coil sprung mattress for under £100.
As your son is 4 you would be better off with a deep quilted mattress rather than a hand tufted one, because he wouldn't be heavy enough to compress the quilting with a hand tufted one. As for the firmness, keep it around medium.0 -

I got this one http://www.cannockbeds.co.uk/product/Cashmere_1500_Mattress-21625 and they pricematched it from here http://www.mattress24.co.uk/product/Cashmere_1500_Mattress-328 who just happen to be their sister company.
It is very very comfortable. it was the only one I went back to and still liked a lot. Even the more expensive ones I tried were just so/so when I went back.0 -

I thought you were after a soft mattress?
Well if you like the one you bough then that's what matters.0 -
It does feel soft. Weird that it says it is firm. I bought it in the shop, not just from a site.0

Yeah it says firm on both sites. It could be one that is badged wrong, so when yours is delivered have a bounce on it before it is unpacked and the driver leaves, as some places will charge for returns if you sign for it (even though they shouldn't under distance selling regs).0 -
Maybe i don't have my bed terminology right. I have tried soft beds in shops, which feel like I just dip down in the middle and feel totally unsupportive and uncomfortable.
This one is supportive, it's just that it isn't brick hard. The top layer is very cushioned and bouncy and extremely comfortable. I felt like I was very supportive but it was soft too. Hard to explain eh?
I will defo try it when it comes though.0 -
I've been looking at beds on pinesolutions.co.uk and am fairly sure their mattresses are made by Shire Beds (waiting to hear back from them to confirm) - amazingly I can't find any mention of this manufacturer on MSE mattress threads!
Can anyone comment on the quality of their product? High/medium/low end of the market? Are they independent?

A kingsize Regency (pocket) is £285 on the pine solutions website, it's £375 for the memory one in the same size - are these good value for the spec?

Any comments or reviews on the manufacturer or retailer would be great, many thanks.0 -
We bought an Apollo Calypso a few months ago, although it is stated as being single sided ours is definitely double sided, before ordering I queried this with the seller who informed me that it was a mistake with the label detail and confirmed to me that it was double sided...0
