I ordered a mattress from Tim's company today and I'm looking forward to receiving it soon!!!!
I'm a little nervous because I went against my wife's advice that I should test before I buy... I read most of the relevant threads on this forum and I asked relevant questions by email to Tim himself, I also had a chat with him on the phone :-) so, I did everything possible to make sure the mattress I ordered is as close to what my wife wanted from the shops :-)
I will come back, once I've had the chance to sleep on the mattress for a week or so to give a review of it.... the only thing I found missing here :-( a detailed review of the Venice mattress by La Romantica.
Wish me luck0 -

Would you mind saying what make size and approximate cost ? I am looking for a Kingsize mattress to fit a wooden based bed. I am now totally confused by the claims and counter arguments for pocket sprung, memory foam and the alleged differences in quality etc.
I just need a medium fim mattress and quite like the feel of the memory foam but don't want the struggle of sinking in it and struggling t get out or doing a commando roll onto the floor an hold onto the radiator to get up :rotfl:I have been to Bensons and the Bed centre at Nottingham/Derby but still confused as to which is a decent quality mattress which will not go into a ridge in the middle and sink either side. Any help appreciated0 -

Picking out the right mattress is a very personal thing I think and the first thing you should have clear is how soft you want your mattress to be. Perhaps in the process of finding that degree of softness you have the chance to test a few mattresses and sort out what materials you want the mattress to be made of.. In my case the decision was made easier by initial constrains ie not Latex.
My eldest daughter bought a memory foam + standard foam about 2 or 3 years ago and she invited us to try it out. I felt so hot that I ended up sleeping alone on the sofa :-) but she loves it. My son bought a combination memory foam and pocket springs and he said he does not get hot on it. Although I have not tested his mattress and he could not remember how many springs nor how thick the foam is :-) - the youngest daughter is waiting to see how our mattress turns out to order one too.
In our case it was a choice of Memory foam and pocket springs and we opted for a combination of the two with climasmart cover.
I don't think you would have the problems you mentioned with a medium firm mattress unless you are very over weight or extremely unfit, however, the best thing to do is go to a shop and try out a few mattresses and find what you like.
As for the quality of the mattress I ordered I cannot testify just yet, however, I read a few comments here that the quality is good. The price is certainly competitive at £596 including the climasmart and delivery for a kingsize Venice mattress.
Yesterday I tested one Mattress from Beales priced at £699 and it was terrible. So, that helped me decide to go against my wife's advice and buy the Venice - hopefully I don't have to face a divorce in a week or so :rotfl:0 -
I too have purchased a bed from Tim. We went for the La Romantica Madrid in Climasmart. After trying out endless beds in all the superstores, we only really found one we liked, which was a pocket spring with memory foam. It was £999 so way out of our price range. On paper, the La Romantica specifications are really good and were in excess of the matress we liked. The mattress in the shop (it was at Dreams, but I cant remember the brand) was only one sided, but clearly had around 2 inches of memory foam (you could see the where the memory foam finished around the side of the mattress) with proper pocket springs. I am hoping the mattress we have bought is just as comfortable. A bit of a risk, but after a lot of research, one I was willing to make.
I will update with a review of the La Romantica once we have it and let it settle in. The problem with these threads is that nobody comes back with a proper review of their purchase! I will try and give as much detail as possible.0 -

Thanks to both of you, will be interested in the reviews as I understand on this thread that memory foam seems to be quite warm ? I dont really want it to be too warm. Thanks0 -
Does anyone have any experience of these two?
Sleepeezee Cool Comfort 1400 £325 (-25% quidco)
Myer's Rhapsody Memory £399 (-25% quidco)
System won't let me post links but both are for sale by KD Beds.
I'm after a medium to firm sprung mattress with memory foam, budget up to around £300, any other suggestions welcome!
Thanks

Re the memory foam on the top layer of the La Romantica beds.....if I use a mattress protector will the heat still get through to me from the foam (and vice versa)?
We have a young son so we always use a protector on the bed.0 -

We have a young son so we always use a protector on the bed.
This would apply to any memory foam mattress:
It is best to allways use a mattress protector with any mattress, as you can wash a protector, but you can't wash a mattress.
With memory foam it needs your body heat to react with the memory foam so that it will soften and mould to your body, so you shouldn't use a thick protector.
You can use a thin quilted one, but personally I think the breathable waterproof ones are best for this purpose, especially when you consider how expensive memory foam is, and how difficult it is to dry. The breathable waterproof ones usually feel like fabric, but have a Gortex type membrane on the back.0 -
Hi everyone,
I have been looking through many threads of this site to try to get some knowledge to aid me in buying a king size divan.
I have managed to work out what I am wanting, 5ft kingsize pocket spring with memory foam on both sides, medium to firm (I have a bad back).
The problem is is that I want a good make but have no idea what are good makes and what are bad. There are alot of beds on the market that meet my specs but the prices differ wildly. I am prepared to pay 500-600 pounds (less if I can help it) but I want a good quality bed with drawers in the divan. There are plenty on ebay but I dont know if these are any good. If I knew what makes to go for then that would narrow my search by quite a bit.
Any advice from people who have bought one the same and have tested it out for some time?
thanks,

I have seen the Apollo Calypso Memory Foam & Pocket Sprung 5ft King Size Divan Bed on the Lazy Beds website and wondered if anyone has pruchased this bed and if so how is it.
Also, the La Romantica Venice bed regularly pops up in these threads and I was wanting anyone who has one to give me some feedback.
