Please can someone help me, I am looking to buy a bed for my son, he is 3 and he is outgrowing his toddler bed fast.

I am looking to spend up to £300 for a single bed and I'd like a divan really because I need the drawer space underneath.

I'd like a brand name that I can trust and have been looking at silent night, are these any good, what type of matteress? Can someone give me some links of what I should be looking for?

You don't need to spend anwhere near that much. You can get a good quality, top of the range, deep quilted open coil sprung divan bed set for half that price.

There isn't any point spending loads of money on a pocket sprung bed for a three year old because they won't be heavy enough to compress the springs enough for them to contour to their body and benefit from the extra support that pocket springs give. Also children do often like to bounce on beds, and this is more likely to damage pocket springs.

I'm a bit put off with memory foam after a couple of sales people have told me that if you spill any liquids on the mattresses then they can be ruined. Apparently it can cause a chemical reaction and cause it to sag and form mildew. I have to say that I appreciated their honest advice though.

I was after one for a child, but maybe it's not the best idea.

Liquids shouldn't cause a chemical reaction as memory foam is more or less innert. However due to the fact that memory foam is very dense, and is open celled, this means that any liquids that are spilt on it can take a very long time to dry out. The only reason it would sag would be due to the wet sponge effect. It should actually regain it's original shape once it has fully dried.

I would allways recommend the use of a mattress protector which should soak up most of any spill. Or if you get a breathable waterproof mattress protector then liquids couldn't reach the mattress anyway. I persanally have a breathable waterproof mattress protector more to protect the mattress from sweat, but obviously it will also protect from spilled drinks. For those who are wondering, no my mattress protector isn't one of those horrible crinkly ones, it feels like fabric, and has a gortex type backing on it.
  • Thanks for the reply Tim, Do you have any links to what type I should be looking for, Sorry its just I really have no idea.

Ok now I'm looking at La Romantica Venice or madrid. However, I can't decide which is the better option. We both like a firm bed but don't want to feel like we are sleeping on the floor. Any ideas because I don't seem to be able to find a seller near us where we could go and try them out.

They do look a bit grim in the pics I seen to. Any thoughts or opinions from people that have one.

I currently have a Venice but will be exchanging it for a Madrid as I feel it's a little bit too soft. I'm under the impression the Madrid will be a bit firmer rather than a lot firmer and assuming I'm right then I doubt anyone that likes a firm bed would think it too firm. Of course I don't know 'till I get it so I'll post my thoughts then.

    1. With the first one I would be a little concerned by the feedback. The memory foam is a little too deep at 3", but that's ok if you like being warm in bed. Another thing that concerns me is that it says 60 - 80kg m3, well 60 - 80 is a huge range, and it appears that they don't actually know. The mattress is non turn. A mobile number only rings alarm bells with me.
    2. The feedback is better on the second one. Being compared to one of Dreams own brand beds isn't a good advert. Again 3" of memory foam which is a little too deep. This one doesn't state the depth of the memory foam, so it would be worth checking. The mattress is non turn. Another mobile number.
With both of the beds you need to find out the make and the model.

On page 18 of this forum you will see my entries and those of Tim's and other members advising me on my problems with a Sleepeezee mattress.

It has been a long hard climb to where we are today. It has also been 4 months since we discovered the mould on this 6 month old mattress.

Briefly what happened was: We contacted the Director or Sleepeezee when their customer services denied a product fault. Within 5 days FIRA came out with an inspector.
This inspector told us he had never seen anything like this on a new mattress.

Their report prompted a replacement mattress. We were not about to go through this again so we declined. We have since purchased another mattress, returned the mouldy one and are now waiting for a refund from the retailer.

Sounds quite easy, but there were so many pitfalls along the way. It took time, money in phone calls and pick up arrangements went sour a couple of times and we had to make the arrangements ourselves. The retailer just left it to us to complete the transfer of the mattress.

Hopefully the refund will happen in the next couple of days.

Thanks to this forum and the people in it, we were able to rectify this situation.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Just to add to this, I went ahead and bought a mattress from Sleep Assured on Ebay. It arrived quickly but after many days still hadn't expanded properly towards one end. I rang them and they offered me a decent refund against it and to keep it but I asked for a replacement which they sent out.

The second one has expanded all over but is a good couple of centimetres off their specified thickness.

Overall i'm happy with their service and because I managed to sell the first one but i'm not so happy overall with the product and wouldn't buy from them again.

Looking to purchase the Warren Evans Mozart bed in King size with Grand IPS mattress. Does anyone have ANY comments on these beds, and the mattress etc?

    Feedback seems good. Thanks :)
