Ok, I tried the Chaucer today in Dreams and it was too hard for me. I didn't think it was at all comfortable, each to their own though.
Based on that, if the Venice is harder still, that rules it out for me?

In that case you would be better off with pocket sprung only, because memory foam that is low enough density to feel soft, won't give very good support, and wouldn't be worth having.

It might not be worth having from a scientific point of view, but if I like it from a comfort point of view then I think it would be worth it.

Have you actually tried memory foam?

Yes. What do you mean by that?
Not wishing to get into another argument Tim, but I think this thread is in danger of going in the same direction as the other. Let people have their opinions, eh?

    Why do you say that?

I don't think you understood why I asked.

The reason I asked was because it sounded like you definately wanted a mattress with memory foam, but you want a soft mattress.

If you like a soft mattress then normally memory foam wouldn't be suitable because it has to be high density to work properly. If a mattress has low density memory foam to make it soft, then it won't give you the support that memory foam is supposed to. So for a soft mattress you are better off not paying the extra for the low density memory foam, but instead putting that money towards a soft pocket sprung only mattress with soft luxurious fillings.
  • Hi Lally

I recentley purchased a memory foam mattress and I am not too sure what this Tim Deegan is talking about but read this:

    Beware! The Density Myth
The common misconception is that the higher the density rating, the harder or firmer the Memory Foam will feel and the lower the density rating, the softer the Memory Foam will feel. This is Untrue.
Density is not tied to firmness at all. Density and Firmness are both factors that can be controlled in the manufacturing process, independent of one another.
Density does not affect firmness, Density is simply an indication to the quality of the foam, and determines how long the foam will keep its memory properties. Basically, the higher the density, the longer it will last.

I got this information from a website called memoryfoamsuperstore

I bought my mattress from this site, and was quick and efficiant. I ordered it one day recieved it the following day, brilliant. They also give me 2 free memory foam pillows and free delivery.
Please do not forget to thank me if this is a good deal

The firmness of a memory foam mattress is dictated mainly by the layer under the memory foam, and only partly depends on the density. However the support IS dictated by the density.

If a mattress has low density memory foam then the support won't be very good. If the memory foam has too high a density then the support will be very good, but the recovery rate will be very slow, which can make it difficult changing position in bed.

Thanks for that Lindsay. I made my decision on Monday and finally bought a mattress and a frame. No memory foam in it at all! But very very comfortable yet supportive, I am chuffed to bits.

Did you get pocket sprung only then?
