All this talk about low cost is complete nonsense. Talkmobile are completely dishonest with their customers. There is NO system in place to enable you to monitor your usage and avoid extremely high charges if you stray over the limits. There is a 72 hour delay in the usage information, so if it looks safe to check out that you tube video, it probably isn't. You will probably end up paying 24p PER SECOND (!) or more. IT IS A SCAM! If they promise you a cap or a limit, it is worthless. Looking back, it would have been cheaper for us to go for a free smart phone and an unlimited contract from an ethical company. My advice is avoid this company like the plague.

That's assuming you don't bother to set up and check the logs on your phone and go over the bundle limits. I've never had any such problems (because I do those things) and two of my contracts are on this network - one being my main phone which is on every day and evening.

Their disconnections team just told me that if I switch my OH to Ovivo she will get text adverts on her handset. Cheeky! I pointed out that I was calling from an Ovivo number and had never received such an advert.

    Hi,

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to advise of my experiences of Talk Mobile today, so that other consumers can make an informed decision before signing on the dotted line for their mobile phone contracts.

I have 2 contracts with them, and have been with them for 3 years. I called them today to try and shave a little bit off my monthly bill as I am not using my full allocation. (I am 10 months into this contract)

Initially it took 4 attempts to get through to them, being cut off the first 3 times after 10 minutes on hold. My final call lasted one hour 15 minutes

Initially I was advised that to review my contract they would have to remove my bolt on's which was fine until I was told that they couldn't put them back on again (breach of contract?)

After a bit of to-ing and fro-ing, and a managers input, it was eventually agreed they would put them back on which would take 5-7 working days and in the meantime if I used the bolt on allowance that I would not be charged. (this took quite a bit of arguing and negotiating to achieve).

We then proceeded to review my contract and all I could be offered that covered my usage was 500m, 5000t & 500mb of data for £25pm. That is less that I currently have for £5 more a month . I reasoned that surely if they were offering a sim only plan for the same amount of minutes etc for only £10 a month, or the same again to a new customer on a 24m contract for only £10.50 a month then they could do better than that. No, they couldn't and wouldn't.

Even after being put through to a manager at my request, they were unable to save me any money a month, despite the fact that I am not using my full allocation. After complaining a bit the manager then offered me, as compensation, an extra 250m a month on top of my current plan (taking me up to 1000m), explaining that it would cost me £5 per month but he would waive that fee for the first 3 months I use less than 500 minutes a month

Earlier this morning, during a 10 minute call to EE for my husbands mobile contract, they saved me £5 a month whilst not reducing his allocation. This was their goodwill gesture as he was still within the first half of his contract by 5 months and their system wouldn't allow him to reduce his allowance even though they could see he wasn't using even half of it. Well done EE!

It appears I am stuck paying for more than actually need or use. I, personally, will be voting with my feet as soon as the contracts with Talk Mobile ends. I will leave you to make up your own mind.

your experience couldn't be more different to mine HalfPint.
I am nearly at the end of my 24-month contract with Talkmobile, I'm on their £7.50 pcm plan, which gives me loads of minutes, loads of texts (ie way more than I ever use per month) and 500mb of data. Due to a change in the way I use my phone I needed more data, so about 7 months into my contract I called talkmobile to discuss it. They offered a £5 pcm bolt-on to give me an extra 500mb a month, explained that it could be taken off and put on again as often as i liked, and also advised me on the day of the month to contact them to add/take off the bolt-on. Its all gone to plan exactly, I've not had any problems phoning them to do this (last time was last month).

I would have no hesitation in recommending talkmobile, based on my experience.
  • Hi Balletshoes,

Glad to hear your experience was a good one. I'm sure I would have had similar if I had wanted to increase my plan and give them more money.

I wanted to give them less money and reduce my plan but they were [STRIKE]unwilling[/STRIKE] unable to do this.

I don't expect, in the initial term of a contract, to be able to reduce my plan?
  • I gave the Talk Mobile guys a notice of 30 days and after two months I noticed that they are still taking money via direct debit. After I raised this issue with them, they say that there is no record of me calling and cancelling the contract. Has this happened with other people as well?

I am now seriously thinking about taking this to the OFCOM ombudsman.

I have now cancelled my direct debit.
  • If you do that without ensuring the contract has ended you could be in for a lot more trouble than you started with.
  • Yes contract has ended in July and I have given notice in July as well. That notice didn't seem have been registered in their system. I spoke with them and they offered me and upgrade which I refused.
