Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, although i've been a lurker for quite a while. Thought i'd join this forum as I joined slimming world 10 weeks ago, so could do with the support of others who are following the plan too.
Off out for lunch this weekend, and my *skinny* friend has requested frankie and bennys. Is the warm chicken salad syn free if any dressings are put on the side?0 -
Hi everyone,
I have decided that I need to take hold of myself and lose some weight. 👍 I've only got about a stone to lose and although I know it's not much, it's creeping up and is making me miserable.
Was chatting with a work colleague today who has lost loads with slimming world and it sounds good, I did try WW and although I lost, all that weighing and measuring became a pain.
I have a few questions that I would really appreciate being answered;
1, I can't get to meetings and the £60 online fee would be hard to find at present, do you think I could get enough advise off here and the web to do it without?
2, I do like to drink wine at the weekends, could this be made to fit with the plan?
3, we do eat out from time to time, how would this fit?
I will start trawling through the thread and acing a read but any help would be great :T

It never rains but it poors. They've announced cutbacks at hubbys work, redundancies a plenty to be confirmed with the end of month pay packet. Hubby was last in so we are thinking he'll be one of those going.
Just looking at the numbers and get this.. .we'll be better off if he does lose the job! MAD!
And the engine has just dropped out the car.
I've had no sleep as the littlest was up through the night, joined by the eldest at 3am.
The quiche I made in the early hours is long gone. There are now no biscuits left in the tin, the ice cream was yummy... and I am failing fast.
Oh yeah and I still aint done with the Uni work. *sigh*0 -

1. Yes, plenty of guys here "go it alone" so long as you post your menus and losses/gains it seems to work. Avoiding the temptation to weigh every minute of every day. My suggestion is to use a Boots Scales and pay the 50p.
2. I'm a red wine/baileys girl myself. Yes it fits. Plan ahead. Decide in a morning if you are going have a glass to relax, or always allow yourself a spare 5 syns just incaseIf memory serves a bottle of merlot will wipe out two days worth of syns. I learned to moderate. I'll drink tea/soft drinks and then wine in rotation.
3. Depending on where you eat, check the menu online, google the syn value..or ALWAYS ask for meat to be grilled. Avoid sauces. Pizza Express have a pizza that is 15 syns for HALF and thats not much.
If your cutting your spending, COOK AT HOME. I used to eat out a hell of a lot, takeaways, restaurants - we are financially better off without the 30-60 food bill for a meal out. It is a real lush treat now, which - if we are all honest is what eating out is supposed to be.
Hope that helps you guys!0 -

Shellie you're a star!! First you tell us all the bad news and then you're off helping people.:A It's not definite that your DH would be first in line for the redundancies, it might depend on his skillset but if he's not been there that long then maybe he's not entitled. Seems strange that he's be better off without the job though. Madness!!
vixtress, it is possible to completely go it alone with the web and this thread. If you can afford £10, I'd advise you to go to one meeting and get the introductory talk and books as that will help a lot. Or you could start now on your own and look out for a voucher for free membership then it'll only cost you £5. Vouchers are often in magazines in January.
It's not the official way but all the time I was getting to target I ate virtually syn free all week and saved my syns for lots of wine at weekends.:o I prefer it that way to just having a glass midweek but each to his own.
When you're eating out you can either make sensible choices (like steak, undressed salad and jacket potato) or you can have a flexi meal. That's when you know you're going over syns but you are as sensible as possible and then get straight back on the wagon when you get home. You may not lose that week but you'll soon get back on track. What you mustn't do is just say 's*d it I've had one bad meal' and give up.
There's a sample menu on the SW site and feel free to ask as many questions as you like. Good Luck.0 -
Thank you all for the well wishes. Hubby finally home after being hooked up for 2 hours. Two infusions one after the other, could take up to 3 months to see if they are working and in this time the consultant will ponder whether or not he should have this treatment every three months
Lunch worked well. While hubby was hooked up the WRVS trolley came round and neither of us could give into temptation as neither had any money on us - always use card and i had my apple, pear and 2 hifi bars in my bag! Then the lunch trolley came round so hubby was offered sandwiches and i politely refused as it was all white bread. Once out of the hospital asked him to call into Morrisons and grabbed one of the salads from the salad bar accompanied with a fruit salad bowl from the chiller. Quickly ate it in car on the way to fetch daughter from work and feel pleasantly satisfied now till after WI when i can come home to my jacket pot.
Sorry to hear you are struggling Shellie hope everything resolves itself soon.
Maman - glad to hear you arent disapointed with your slight gain.

I think I might just use up the OSS + flavourings that I have and then try a plain one when they are used up and add my own fruit etc. Think I only have a weeks worth left or so.
I do like the measured out ones, as I could easily tip too much cereal in to a bowl
I don't use all my syns at the mo. Well I say I don't use my syns - some things are a bit guess work which will probably have some syns in.
Like yesterday - I made a butter chicken which is a weight watcher recipe (from when I used to follow that plan), which had 2 tsp of ground almond, and 1 tbsp flora light (3 I think?) - all divided by 4 portions. So I know there will be syn values in things like that - but I didn't work out how much they would be. And I also had a mini naan healthy eating one (8.5 for a non healthy eating one), but couldn't find the syn value for that. I think that would be under 15 syns tho? Other days I probably haven't used many syns at all...
The consultant said I should take my food diary in next week to see if I am making any obvious mistakes, so I will be doing that.
For last week I was kind of thinking to myself, that whatever I ate was >loads< less than in previous weeks so I figured I couldn't go much wrong with the plan.
I am going to always have tea before I go - it was just on the first week where the day didn't quite go to plan, so we ate a lot later than usual. So I will keep that consistant from now on. I didn't realise how much impact it could have on the scales to be honestMarried my lobster in July 2011

OSS is not a HEB and the plain ones are 5 (flavoured vary from 6.5lbs up).
Just looked this up as I was sure plain OSS was a B and turns out it is - 27g sachet + 1 ryvita = B according to the online list. Good for me as I have been having the flavoured one and counting 0.5-1 syns (a tweak I know) - will probably have them a bit less frequently now but they are very nice
Saying that, I would agree with all of the above about varying meals, using syns etc.
ETA- it's interesting scrolling through the HEs - loads of stuff that isn't in the book. Will be looking out for Lidl sugar free muesli sachets, will be handy to take to work.2011: [STRIKE]Houses[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]weddings[/STRIKE], [STRIKE]cats[/STRIKE]

Aww thanks Stef, maman.. thats sweet... trying to stay awake while the kids eat, play halfhearted- so typing is the way forward for me.Thank you everyone who replied

I find now though that its not enough to get me to my 10am snack attack, so I go with weetabix, pot of FF yoghurt, and cut up fruit. That always works. Weekends are ALWAYS a fry (grill) up0 -
Blodwen where is there an online list of Hes? I've never seen one with OSS on!
Today went well and as the training was just me and my line manager I was talking to her and her colleague about SW and they bought me a jacket potato with chile on from the cafe next door! They couldn't believe I've lost almost 3st in 18 weeksI've had 2 HiFi lights as a HeB and will have milk as my HeA
Just a quick question whilst I try and decide what to have for tea, cos like a doink I didn't think I would be hungry when I got home as I was due home much later (finished early, went to Manchester Christmas markets and still got home early!), how many syns should I count for the chile on my potato?
Feeling sorry for myself tonight and miss bf so cuddled up with dog, hot water bottle and the bear her bought me. and he's told me to order a take out to treat myself! But dunno what to order, tempted to flexi day it and have something nice************************************
